Fender Design Challenge
Objective:
To create the fender drip area, cowl mounting area, sill mounting area, and body side mounting area on the fender.
Fender:
The purpose of a fender is pretty simple. Its purpose is to keep mud, rocks, and other road debris from being thrown around by the tires. In other words, the fender is a housing for the wheels that keeps road debris contained. If there was nothing covering the wheels, all kinds of debris would be kicked up by the rotating tires.
The fender not only protects your car from sustaining damage from road debris but it prevents this debris from being thrown up at other vehicles on the road.
Fenders can be designed from numerous materials. You can find some built from ABS, a high-strength plastic. There are also some designs made from metallic material.

There are two types of fenders, they are
1) Full bumper type
2) Half bumper type
Full bumper type:
In full bumper type the scrap is more from the raw material. It leads to higher costs of the final product.
Half bumper type:
Half bumper type reduced the scrap because two fenders can be made from a single sheet. It reduces the material cost and scrap rate.

The fender is mounted on 5 regions using fasteners.
1. Body mounting
2. A-pillar mounting
3. Sil mounting
4. Cowl mounting
5. Drip area

The drip area region is the region where the fender goes to fastened with the engine compartment area.
DESIGN 0F DRIP AREA MOUNTING
For drip area clearance of 200mm from the cowl area and 150mm from the headlamp area two planes were created. The cowl top part consists wiper motor and its instruments.

Bumper mounting area:

This is for mounting with the bumper part. A dart is created to increase the stiffness of the part.
Sill mounting area:

This is for mounting the fender with the sill area. A relief is created to reduce the stress concentration.
Body mounting area:

This part is for mounting the fender to the body of the vehicle.
A-Pillar Mounting area:

Baffle mounting area:
The baffle is a rubber part that is used to reduce the stone or mud thrown around by the tires.

Output:

The fender mounting area and drip area were created as per master geometry.
