Fender Design Challenge
FENDER DESIGN USING NX CAD
OBJECTIVE
To Design a front fender of a car from the given skin data and the master section and add various mountings such as Drip mounting, A-pillar, Sill, Bumper, C mounting, and Splash mountings.
INTRODUCTION
The fender is part of an automobile that covers the wheel. Its primary purpose is to prevent the mud, sand, rock, and other particles from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire which reduces the risk of injury to the pedestrians. Basically, a car has a front and rear fender covering the wheels respectively. The front fender is generally mounted on five different regions as follows
- Body
- A-pillar
- Sill
- Cowl
- Drip area
DRIP AREA AND MASTER SECTION
The drip area is the part that joins the fender with the engine compartment. The drip area is mounted with clearance in the front and the rear end. The front end must have a minimum of 150 mm clearance for mounting of headlamps and housing while the rear end must have a minimum of 200mm (not more than 300mm) for the cowl top part which houses the viper motor.
The Master section is being used to design the drip area for the fender, which provides the measurement details. Below is the master section for the fender drip area.

BUMPER MOUNT

The bumper mount is used to mount the bumper of the car. Embosses are created to add more strength and holes were added for fastening purposes.
