Fender Design Challenge
TITLE : Modeling a Fender using NX CAD Sheet metal
Objective : Draw a Fender in NX CAD using Sheet Metal workbench and list the tools used
Introduction : A fender is the curved portion of the car's body that sits over and houses the wheels.

The Purpose Of A Fender
The purpose of a fender is pretty simple. Its purpose is to keep mud, rocks, and other road debris from being thrown around by the tires. In other words, the fender is a housing for the wheels that keeps road debris contained. If there was nothing covering the wheels, all kinds of debris would be kicked up by the rotating tires.
The fender not only protects your car from sustaining damage from road debris but it prevents this debris from being thrown up at other vehicles on the road. This is why vehicles with large, oversized tires are often required by law to install fender flares.
Types of fenders

There will be 4 fenders i.e 2 for front and 2 for rear of the car
fenders are classified in to 2 types
- Full bumper type - it is big in size and requires more steel sheet which in turn increases the overall weight of the car, apart from this in manufacturing process to produce this full bumper type fender scrap from single blank will be more which is uneconomical . so due to these reasons this type of fenders are not used in present day
- Half Bumper type fender- the name itself indicates that its a half bumper which will have less weight and also can be produced at cheaper price. Which in turn it increase the performance of vehicle.

Mounting on the fender
- A pillar mounting
- Body mounting
- Sill mounting
- Bumper mounting
- Drip mounting

Description
Given master section

Tools used in NX CAD
- Offset in face
- Trim sheet
- Law extension
- Emboss
- Datum plane
- Face blend
- Edge blend
- Intersection curves
- Bridge curve
- Sew
- Dart
- Thicken
Design criteria
- Maintaining min of 8mm around the hole to serve as bearing area for the bolt
- Smooth curves to be maintained to avoid easy tooling and avoid stress concentration
- Stiffeners are provided at the drip area to strengthen the structure
- Fillets are to be maintained at minimum of 3mm or 3+thickness of the sheet
- Emboss are provided to increase strength
Drip Area Design
Designing a drip area is the very crucial part. have to follow all the dimensions mentioned in the master section like 150mm from the bumper side space need to be provided and not more than 300mm distance from the A pillar mounting. There should be a proper maintenance of angles that need to be followed as per the master section.
