Fender Design Challenge
FENDER MOUNTINGS
AIM
The main aim of the project is to develop the fender mounting following the given master section.
FENDER
A fender is the curved portion of the car's body that sits over and houses the wheels. The purpose of a fender is pretty simple. Its purpose is to keep mud, rocks, and other road debris from being thrown around by the tires. In other words, the fender is a housing for the wheels that keeps road debris contained. If there was nothing covering the wheels, all kinds of debris would be kicked up by the rotating tires.
There are two types of fender: -
- Full bumper fender
Full bumper fender is a traditional type fender where the material consumption is more.

- Half bumper fender
Most commonly used fender is Half bumper fender because it has less sheet metal area as compared to the full bumper fender, remaining parts are covered with plastic components.

Fender mounting regions
- Drip area
- A - pillar mounting
- Sill mounting
- Bumper mounting
- Baffle mounting

Design procedure: -
Here the fender mounting area is to be developed from the given fender and master section
Drip area: -
- Drip area is most important part of fender from which it is attached to engine compartment through weldnuts. It should be 150mm away from the bumper area and 200mm away from A- pillar mounting.

- Total height should be lesser than 40mm, if it exceeds spring back takes place.

- Total breadth must be 10mm away from the enfine compartment area.
- These bead like structure are added to increase the strength.

A-pillar mounting: -
- According to the A-pillar, these mounting are designed.
- Here the A-pillar is not given, so designed like below fig.

Sill mounting
Sill plates are essentially placed in cars to protect the door frames from wear and tear. These car accessories are located at the place where the door meets. These bead like structure are added to increase the strength.

Bumper mounting: -
These mounting is provided to mount fender to the bumper.

Baffle mounting:-
To reduce NVH of a car, baffle is mounted on the fender of the car.It is mounted on wheel arch area.

Conclusion:
Thus the fender mountings are developed using master section.
