Fender Design Challenge
Introduction:
The fender is the part of the car directly over the wheel well which helps prevent debris and grime kicked up by the wheels from damaging the sides of the car or other nearby vehicles while you drive. The fender also protects the wheels from side impacts and other potential damage. Fenders are the curved strut which sits over the wheel well on a car and helps cover the top of the wheel. Most cars have fenders of one type or another to help cover their wheel wells. and these fenders are generally made of the same plastic. metal. or fiberglass material as the rest of the vehicle.
Shape of Fender. Fenders protect the sides of your car. The main purpose of fenders is to prevent the dirt and debris kicked up by your wheels from damaging the sides of your car. The fender catches anything brought up by your wheels and causes it to drop straight down instead of spattering against or scratching your vehicle. Fenders also help protect your wheels. Fenders also provide some protection to the wheels against collisions with other cars. although this isn't perfect. Generally. the fenders will get hit before the wheels do and. depending on how hard the impact is. will stop whatever hit your car from damaging your tires.
Types of fender:
The type of fender is based upon the area covered i.e.. full fender type and half fender type.
- Full fender type:
Full fender type is traditional type of fender where more material consumption is observed. This type is used in old design of automobiles where it increases the overall weight and thus reduces performance. The maintenance also relatively more due to more surface.

- Half fender type:
Half fender type is modern design where less material consumption is observed, so productivity increases by reducing size of blank and thus providing more performance. The maintenance also relatively low compared to full fender type.

MASTER SECTION:

DRIP AREA MOUNTING:

• The drip area would be recognizable fom the opening between Hood and Fender.
• This mounting is attached to the engine compartment of the car.
• A min 150mm distance is kept from the front side and a distance 300mm or less can be kept on the rear side .
• This is to avoid the springbuck during the manufacturing . the edge of the mounting should atleast 10mm away from any nearby component in the engine.
• The drip area should be less than 40mm.
• The embosess that are created on the drip mounting should be flat with respect to the curvature.
• A dart is provided at the edge of the drip mounting to increase the stiffness.
SILL MOUNTING:

• This is placed basically at the bottom of the fender. The mounting part is created such that it firmly fits to the sill.
• The embosess that are created on the drip mounting should be flat with respect to the curvature.
A-Pillar mounting:

• A-pillar mounting is a vertical support on a vehicle. It holds the windshield set up and just downside to the A-pillar fender is mounted to hold the position.
BUMPER MOUNTING:

• It is placed at the front side of the fender.the bumper mount area of fender, mounts on the chassis to hold the position.
• Since Bumpers are mounted over the fender it is called Bumper Mounting Area.
BAFFLE MOUNTING:

• Usually a baffle is mounted on the fender of the car . It is mounted on the wheel arch area .
• A plastic unit is placed which is called baffle/splash fender linear mounting is placed.
• These mountings are created for fixing the baffle/splash mounting.
