Fender Design Challenge
Fender Design
Objective:-
To Design the fender mounting on the drip area, still area, Baffle area, and the A-pillar using the NX Cad.
Introduction:-

Fender's primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other roads spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
Types of Fenders:-
1) Full Bumper type fender
2) Half Bumper type fender
1) Full Bumper type fender
Full bumper type fender is an old design of BIW parts. consumption large space and increase car weight and reduce car performance.

2) Half fender types
Half type fender is a modern design where less material consumption is observed so productivity increases by reducing size also relatively low compared to full bumper type.
Design Consideration fender
While designing a fender several design parameters are to consider such as how to decide the portion required for drip area, still mounting, bumper mounting, baffle mounting, A-pillar mounting.
Mounting point of the fender which design:-
1. A-pillar Mounting
2. Bumper Mounting
3. Sill Mounting
4. Drip Mounting
5. Baffle Mounting
1. A-pillar Mounting
The body of an automobile is made of a structure that is just the same as that of housing. The car pillar in the vehicle stands in the vertical position which another side is connected to the rooftop. A proper mounting on the fender should be provided to get in contact with the A-pillar of the vehicle body, to provide strength to the vehicle in case of a frontal crash.

2. Bumper Mounting
The Bumper Mounting of the fender gets in connection with the front bumper its get easily accommodated with the bumper housing.

3. Sill Mounting
Sill mounting is located at the lower end of the fender which is connected to the body.

4. Drip Mounting
Drip Mounting of the fender is the main fitment area connected to the car body inside the hood. this area is to be calculated from the master section 200m space for cowl mounting. left 150mm for headlamp and maintain the depth of depth area 40mm. holes to be created in the drip area for fixing freely the frame of the vehicle.

5. Baffle Mounting
Baffle mounting are provided on the wheel arch area of the fender on which baffle mounting are provided to connected baffle to protect the road spray to be accumulated on the lower car frame mostly baffle made for plastic material.

Conclusion:-
The Front Fender design is completed by designing the drip, baffle, A-Pillar, Sill, and Bumper mounting areas.
