Fender Design Challenge
FENDER DESIGN
The Objective of this project is to design the mountings for fender from the given data.
First we will see, what actually a fender is?
Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire and damage the vehicle components or hit the pedestrians.
In British English, the fender is called the wing. The equivalent component of a bicycle or motorcycle, or the "cycle wing" style of wing fitted to vintage cars, or over tires on lorries which is not integral with the bodywork, is called a mudguard in Britain, as well as modern Indian and Sri Lankan English.

The data given is the master section of the mounting at drip area and a fender skin part which is a half bumper type fender.

So, on a pre-designed fender, we will add mountings for different regions :
- Drip Mounting Area

- Drip mounting is situated inside the hood area. It is located such that it is 150mm apart from the headlght housing and around 200-300mm apart from the A-pillar.
- The entire section is hidden in the engine compartment and its away from the engine components by like 10mm.
- Also, the depth is given such way that the tool workability is there when the hood is completely opened and not too long too, where the chances of spring effect increases.
- Two mounting points arre given for the bolts.
- A-pillar Mounting Area

- This mounting is done on the A-pillar of the chassis.
- Its is a simple mounting point with one bolt access given.
- This holds the fender firmly from the back side of it.
- Bumper Mounting Area

- This comes on the front end of the fender, where the bumper comes, so it is called bumper mounting area.
- Holds the fender well from the front end.
- Sill Mounting Area

- This is the lower end of the fender which mounts on the sill part of the car chassis.
- One holes is provided for the mounting.
- The mounting face is kept flat for the perfect fit.
- Baffle Mounting Area

- This is used to attach the inner lining of fender which protects the inner components from mud, water and other particles hit.
- This comes along the wheel arch line.

Conclusion : So summing up, we created different mountings for a fender In Siemens NX by using a master section and provided skin data. Also, we learnt about the features used during the designing.
