Fender Design Challenge
Car Fender
Aim: To design the car fender mountings according to the Engineering standard & given master data using siemens NX.
Introduction:
Fender is the part of automobile which primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fender is considered as a most important component in the automobile which plays key role while undergoing frontal crash and prevent the injuries to passengers. Fender design consideration varies from region to region according to their norms.
Fender is categorized into two types:
- Full Bumper Type Fender.
- Half Bumper Type Fender.

Manufacturing steps of fender:
Metal stamping is one of the method used for manufactuirng fender. Toyota poineer manufacturing company developed new methods to reduce the steps invovled in the manufacture of fender.
The system consists of three major processes:
1. drawing performed by a newly developed liquid-pressure press-forming
method,
2. trimming with a high speed 3-axis laser cutting machine, and finally
3. cam flanging by multi-directional press forming method in which the pressure is
simultaneously applied from six directions.
