Fender Design

AIM:-To design a front fender of a car with sill, bumper, baffle and A pillar mounting points by following the given master section as per the design requirement.

introduction:- A car fender, also know as a car wing, is a component of a vehicle that is located above the wheels and is designedd to protect the wheel wells and the sides of the vehicle from damage due to road debris, collisions, or other impacts. Fender are typically made of metel or plastic and are atteched to the body of the car by fastener or bolts. They can come in a varity of shape and sizes depending on the make and model of car and may include feature such as wheel arches or flares to provide additonal clearace for larger tires.

types of fender :- car fender are basically two types

1. full bumper fender and

2. half bumper fender

design consideration for car fender:- There are several design considarations for car fender that must be taken into account to ensure that they perform their function effectivelly.

1. meterial:- Car fender can be made from a varity of materials, including metel, plastic and composites. The meterial choson will depend on factor such as cost, weight, durabitity, and manufacturing constraints.

2. size and shape :- fender must be sized and shaped to fit the specific vehicle model they are designed for taking into account factor sach as tires size, wheel position, and overall vehicle design. the shape and size of fender can affect aerodynamics and vehiv=cle perfomanc.

3. Strenght and stiffness :- fender must be strong and stiff enough to withstand impacts from road dibris or collision while also being flexible enough to absorb impact energy without breaking or causing further damage to the vehicle.

4.Mounting and attechment:- Fender must be securly atteched to the car body using appropriate mounting points such as A-pillar mounting, sill mounting area, bumper mounting, cowl top mountin and side body mounting

5.clearance and wheel coverage:- Fender must provide perfect clearance and covrage for the wheel and tires while also complying with regulatory requirements for vehicle safety and emissoins. This can include features such as wheel arch area to provide additional clearance for lager tires and baffle to prevent debris from being kicked froom up onto other vehicles or pedestrians.

FENDER MOUNTINGS

Master section of fender for design different mounting points

1. Body mounting :- body mounting in fender is depending on requierment which connects side of fender to the side door of car.

2. Drip mounting:-It is the important mounting unit of the fender. it is connected with the engine compartment, therefor the lot of design constrains are to ne followed while designing the fender

while designing the drip area area we have to maintain 200-300mm distence for cowl top aera and for placing the head lamp we have to levave at least 150mm at the front end while desinging.

Three different type of darts are addded on the longer side to provide the stiffness and adds strength to the part.

3. A-piller mounting:- THe A pillar is the structural pillar that combine the body to the roof. this make the sides of the windsheied rest. front fender are fastened to the Apillar to from robust structure.

4. bumper area mounting:- bumper mounting area iis used to mount the plastic bumper to the fender with the help of nut and bolts / fastners.

5. sill area mouting:- the bootom end of the fender is mounted on the sill area of car body. Sill is the panal directly below the bottom of the door supporing the floor and may be used to combine the floor and the body

6. Baffle mounting :- baffle mounting or mudguard are clip fit type of mountibng on the inner side of the fender arch over the tyre.

Conclusion: Finally design of fender is done with the help ofNX cad software by following the master sectionn.
