Fender Design
- Fender Design -
Aim – To designed the front fender using NX cad following the design parameter.
- Fender –
- Fender is US English terms for the part of an automobile that frame a wheel.
- It is primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rock, liquid and others road spray from being thrown into the air by rotating tire.
- When vehicle is moving, tires pickup stone and other and hurl them in all direction fender are basically present to prevent any injuries to pedestrian and contain the motion of these particle.
- In other words, the fender is a housing for the wheels that keeps road debris contained. If there was nothing covering the wheels, all kinds of debris would be kicked up by the rotating tires.
- The thickness of the fender 0.75mm.

- The importance of car fender:
- Safety-
protect pedestrian from the wheel. Like its better to be it by a laterally moving fender than a rolling tire, keeps loose, streaming items from being wrapped up in a rolling wheel.

- Aerodynamic design-
smooths the car profile so we do not get a lot of drag off the uncovered wheels. Some fender is enclosed on the side for this.

- General appearance-
Fender give a better attractive look to the car, so the car user like and buy.
- Cleanliness –
Fender protect the car from road rock and small stone and liquid while running the car its fly from tires.

- Master section for drip area –

- Type of fender:
- Full bumper types
- Half bumper types
- Full bumper types:
These types of fenders were used in earlier models of vehicles. They contribute to the major increment of the steel weight by just covering the front headlights with respect to bumper associated with this type of fender is there is a lot of wastage in the blank or sheet and each inch of material consume.

- Half bumper type:
These fenders are mainly used in all automobile industries for manufacturing a car and half bumper type fender reduce the cost and scrap. It can be economically manufactured i.e. by slightly increasing the blank size we can produce two fenders at a time.

- Mounting:
There are five mounting point in a fender
- Body mounting
- A pillar mounting
- Sill mounting
- Bumper mounting
- Drip mounting

- Drip area-
- Drip area mounting is the important part in the fender. This mounting is attached to the engine compartment of the car. Fender drip area is mounted via walnuts or via fasteners to the engine compartment. a drip area of mounting is start from 150mm front side of the fender and 200mm from the end side of the fender. The total length of drip area from the top of fender should be less than 40mm, this is to avoid the spring back effect during the manufacturing. The edge of the mounting should at least 10mm away from any nearby component in the engine, a rigidity bead is provided at the end to increases the strength of the mounting.
- Cowl top part consist pf wiper motor and its instrument.
- Two dart are added on the longer side of the drip area in order to provide the stiffness and adds strength to the part. this help the fender to not to vibrate and impact the forces outside of the fender during motion of the vehicle.
- Embosses are provide to the mounting area for strengthen them during fastening.

- Bumper mounting area-
- Bumper mounting area is used to fix the plastic bumper to the fender with the help to the fasteners.
- This mounting point is created for attaching the bumper to the fender. it should have enough strength to hold the bumper steadily.

- Design of A pillar mounting area-
- The A pillar is the structural pillar that combine the body to the roof. This make the sides of the windshield rest from fender are fastened to the A pillar to from a robust structure.
- A pillar provide strength to the roof as well as front glass is also mounting on the A pillar.

- Sill mounting area-
The sill mounting area is in the bottom of the fender. it is mostly gets connected with the door region of the car. Here, proper embossing and holes for the fasteners are provided.

- Baffle mounting –
These mounting points are created for attaching plastic component i.e. baffle which prevent chipping inside the engine compartment.

DIFFERENT VIEWS-

- Conclusion-
We have developed front fender with mounting point following the design parameter and master section. This design is designed by NX 12 software.
