Fender Design

FENDER DESIGN

Objective: Follow the given Master section to create the Drip Area for the Sill; Bumper, Baffle (Splash), and A-Pillar mount create your own design according to the Engineering standard that you learned.

Introduction:

Fender is the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

Fenders is located at 4 locations in the car body

Two at front side called front fenders.

Two at rear side called rear fenders.

Front fenders are of two types

  • Full bumper type
  • Half bumper type

Full bumper type: This type of bumper was used in the old type cars; it had more weight and structure.

Half bumper type: This type of bumper newly incorporated in most of the new cars to reduce the weight of cars and increase authentic look of the cars.

Mounting

There are 5 mounting points in a Fender

  • Body
  • A Pillar
  • Sill
  • Cowl
  • Drip

A – PILLER MOUNTING

It is the region below the mirror mounting in a car body

DRIP AREA MOUNTING

It is the region located below the hood inner panel it is major mounting in fender it holds the fender body to the car.

Drip area created as per the given master section

BUMPER AREA MOUNTING

It is mounting provided below the bumper of the car body.

BAFFLE AREA MOUNTING

It is the region above the tyre area of the car body.

SILL MOUNTING

It is the mounting at the bottom of the car body called sill region.

Conclusion: Created the mounting at A pillar, drip area, baffle region, bumper region and sill area.
