Fender Design
Aim - To perform wheel arch study on the given styling data and create Drip area and mounting points.
Objective -
- Perform wheel arc study with consideration of Europeon Standard Regulation.
- Create a drip area using master section
- Create sill, Bumper, splash, and A pillar mountings
What is fender -
- Fendee is the part of an automobile, motor cycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside).
- Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
- When Vehicle is moving, tyres pick Up Stones and Other dirt from road and spray them in all direction. Fender are
basically present to prevent any injuries to pedestrians and contain the motion of these Particles.
Types of automobile fender -
- Full Fender - These types of Fenders were too long and blank size used to obtain these fenders was more, which increased the manufacturing process and cost. Most of the vintage cars can be Seen with these type of fenders

- Half fender - All modern Cars Use these type of fenders because they utilize less material and have strength as Compared to the full Type Fender.

Wheel arc study data

- According to Euro NCAP standard, the wheel should be at least 10 mm inside from the outer edge of the arch on the fender to avoid damages from chipping to the vehicles and the pedestrians.
- The study is done by marking 5 points on the wheel arch and measuring the distance from the points to the wheels outer surface. The points are named SA, SB, SC, SD, SE in the study. Each point should be at least in the range of minimum standard limit.

| Sections | Clearance (L) |
Status Criteria |
| SA | 9.97 mm | FAIL |
| SB | 10 mm | PASS |
| SC | 6.43 mm | FAIL |
| SD | 1.59 mm | FAIL |
| SE | 5.44 mm | FAIL |
- From the results, the part is not suitable. The styling team should be notified about results.
Given Master section for drip area -
- Drip Area Mountings -

- The thickness of the part is 0.75 mm.
- Embosses are provided to provide strength to the part.
- master section is used to develop the drip area section.
2. Bumper Mountings -

- A Bumper is located on the Front and rear of a vehicle. The purpose of a bumper is to absorb the impact of minor
collison.
3. A Pillar mountings -

- A- Pillar is the part of the body along the side boundries of the windshield. It is subject to strong legal requirments regarding the driver's visibility.
- This portion is mounted on the A-pillar and Sometimes it is mounted on the body. The design for this mounting varies from model to model.
- In some cars the A-Pillar mounting on Fender is designed in such a way that the mirror, fender and the A-pillars are mounted together.
- The design procedure is quite simple, a flate Surface is created perpendicular to the flange and further embossing and
holes are created for mounting. - the mounting points are used to connect fender with A-pillar of the car body
- Embossed were provided for the stiffness of the part.
4. Splash Cover Mountings -

- The mounting points were used to connect splash cover with the fender
5. Sill Mounting points -
