                                                              FENDER DESIGN

AIM :

For to create different mountings on Fender like Sill, Bumper, Baffle (Splash), A pillar and Drip by using UGNX.

FENDER :

The main purpose of the fender is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

There are 2 types of fender

  • Full bumper type.
  • Half bumper type.

Half bumer type fender is mostly used in now a days as it requires only less amount of materials comparing with the Full bumper type so weight is also comparitively less for vehicle which is using Half Bumper type.

In this challenge mountings are created over half bumper type fender.

MOUNTING REGIONS OF FENDER

There are 5 mounting regions on the fender, they are:

  • Drip mounting
  • Baffle (Splash) mounting
  • Sill mounting
  • Bumper mounting
  • A-pillar mounting

DRIP MOUNTING:

In our case master sketch for Drip area mount is given and it's shown below:

  • Drip area should be carefully designed as that mount is near to engine and other parts inside engine room.
  • Should leave initially a distance from cowl top (300 or less). Because in that region wiper motor and related instruments are to be join.
  • 150 mm should be leave from the front portion of the fender as to not to interfere Headlamp unit.

  • Embossings are provided for each hole as it will also kep that area more stronger.
  • Three holes od diameter 5mm are provided for fastening. And checked flat surface around the hole in 10 mm circle radius.
  • Darts are provided as shown in the design inorder to increase the stiffness of the Drip mount as the mount is having greater span, so dart will help the vibration of the mount.

BAFFLE (SPLASH) MOUNTING :

  • Baffle is fastened to fender through baffle provided as shown.
  • As it cover the inside portion of the fender inorder to protect the engine compartment and pedestrians from causing injuries from chip out debris on the road when the car is in motion.

SILL MOUNTING :

  • This mounting is provided at the bottom portion of the fender.
  • This part of fender is connected to the Sill part of the car.

BUMPER MOUNTING :

  • Bumper of the vehicle is connected to Fender part through this mount.
  • As the bumper is the front portion of a vehicle and is a part that have more chances to collide. So the Bumper mount should be strong that's why a dart is provided at that mount mean while the perfect mating of Bumper and Fender part should be ensured.

A-PILLAR MOUNTING :

  • The A -pillar is the structural pillar that combines the body to the roof.
