FENDER DESIGN

WHAT IS FENDER?

The pressed and formed sheet-metal part mounted over the road wheels of an automobile, bicycle, etc., to reduce the splashing of mud, water, and the like.A device on the front of a locomotive, streetcar, or the like, for clearing the track of obstructions.A mudguard or splashboard on a horse-drawn vehicle.

In this project as we said we are going to design the front fender mounts.

Front and rear fender

We have two types of fender full and half bumper type in the below image you see that.

Full and half bumper type

So now a days half bumper fender is in use as it reduce the cost of manufacturing of it as compare to full bumper type.

Given master data for drip area mount

AIM :
To design the mounts for the Front fender such as drip, sill, bumper, A-pillar, cowl and baffle.
Here we have 5 different mounts on the fender which we need to design.
They are
  1. Bumper mount
  2. Drip area mount
  3. A Pillar mount
  4. Sill mount
  5. Baffle mount
1. BUMPER MOUNT
Bumper mount on the fender is used to mount the bumper on fender using appropriate fastners.
here i have used two darts to strengthen the mount .
2. DRIP AREA MOUNT
Drip area mount is the important thing in this design .As per given instructions drip area mounting has been designed .
for flat surface we have used embossed surface and for strength we have used darts . Here we have to leave 150mm for placing head light and 200 mm for cowl area.
3. A PILLAR MOUNT
Here A pillar mount is used in between of front fenders and body shell.
4. BAFFLE MOUNT
Here Baffle mount is used to hold the plastic wheel guard for protecting the side engine and pedestrians from mud and dust particles.
5. SILL MOUNT
Sill mount is used to attach the front fender to run board area for better support .
After designing these mounts we need to thicken the design for 0.75mm to convert it into sheetmetal.
few pics of fender with different angles after thickening
CONCLUSION:
As per the given dimensions fender design has completed.
