Door Arm Rest Week 8 Challenge

TOOL AXIS, DRAFT ANALYSIS OF DOOR ARM REST

OBJECTIVE

The main aim objective is to create tooling axis for Class-A surface, Class-B surface and Class-C surface of Door Arm Rest. Create a solid model from the surfaces and Draft analysis of Door Arm Rest solid model.

DRAFT

Draft is the amount of taper for molded or cast parts perpendicular to the parting line.
When developing parts for plastic injection moulding, applying draft (or a taper) to the faces of the part is critical to improving the moldability of your part. Without it, parts run the risk of poor cosmetic finishes, and may bend, break, or warp due to molding stresses caused by the plastic cooling.

DRAFT ANGLE
A draft angle is a slant that is applied to each side of most features of an injection molded part. The angle, which is positioned to run toward the direction of a mould's pull and parting line, helps with releasing the part from the mould.

TOOLING AXIS

It is defined as the the direction in which mould opens or core and cavity opens.

Steps

1. Check the gaps between the class A surface by using join and boundary operation.

2. Check the Class-A surface in all direction which is suited for tooling direction.

3. Make two Points Co-ordinates on the hole of surface and make between points on the hole surface.

4. Make intersect on XZ axis use line command and use bisecting lines between two lines.

5. Make intersect on YZ axis use line command and use bisecting lines between two lines.

6. Using line command selecting bisecting and selected the two bisecting lines and center point to get the tooling axis.

For Create Class-B surface

7. First work on Door arm rest surface, Use extract command used to extract from Class A surface.

8. Untrim and extrapolate the surfaces after that offset the surface to 2.5mm downward direction to the Class-A surface make it in a geometrical set as first half.

9. Trim the two extrapolate surface and give edge fillet of radius 14.5mm.

10. Untrim and extrapolate the surfaces after that offset the surface to 2.5mm downward direction to the Class-A surface make it in a geometrical set as second half.

11. Trim the two extrapolate surface and give edge fillet of radius 24.5mm

12. Make point on the fillet surface and sketch a inclined line and tangent to the intersect of the fillet surface.

13. Use multiple extract and smooth curve the line for guide curve and sweep the inclined line.

14. Use extract and untrim the surface then make line and split the surface and make blend on the two surfaces then join the surface.

15. Multiple extract the boundary of the surface and smooth curve then extrapolate the surfaces.

16. Trim the surfaces and give edge fillet of 2.5mm.

17. Extract the base surfaces then untrim, extrapolate and offset the surface of 2.5mm.

18. Trim the surfaces and give fillet to the surface.

For Create Class- C surface

19. Unhide the Class-A surface, Multiple extract boundary of surface then smooth curve and sweep command use with the referance to the surface.

20. Multiple extract the hole surface then smooth curve and sweep to the draft direction.

21. Use join command select the sweep surfaces and the extracted Class-A surface.

22. Final trim with Class-A surface and Class-B surface to get the Class-C surface

23. In part modeling select the close surface command use convert to soild model and draft analysis of the final plastic component of Door Arm Rest.
