Door Arm Rest Week 8 Challenge

DESIGN DRAFT ANALYSIS DOOR ARMREST

Aim –

Create the Door Armrest component using the given Class-A Surface of the armrest and the door.

INTRODUCTION

  • Design CLASS B and Class C Surface for the Door Armrest from the given Class-A Surface.
  • Take Class A Surface of the Door for reference.
  • By the use of the Close Surface feature to create a solid body from the surface.
  • With publication option and publish the Class A, Class B, Class C Surfaces and the tooling axis.

CREATING OF TOOLING AXES:

CREATING OF MAIN TOOLING AXIS

From the Z direction, most all the components are visible to let's try creating a tooling axis in the Z direction and check whether we can take the tooling axis in z-direction which is normal to the base surface. and run draft analysis and check the results.

According to the result of the draft analysis, we can take the tooling axis in the z-direction.

SIDE CORE TOOLING AXIS

In this molding, a side core is added to clear the ribs. So we need a side core tooling axis which we are taking normal to the surface and checking it with draft analysis

As we can see in the above figure the side core is green when we take the tooling axis in the X-direction. So we can go ahead with the tooling axis.

CREATING OF CLASS B SURFACE :

  • Extract the top flat surface of the class a surface and Antrim and extrapolate if needed as shown in the figure and offset to 2.5mm downward.

  • Now repeat the same by extracting the other top surface of the door armrest

Fillet Surface:

  • The fillets at the backside of the Class A surface can not be created directly because if both the surfaces are trimmed together, there will only be a single surface but there are two fillets:

  • Extract the fillet edges from the Class A surface

And also extract the middle long edge of the as shown in the figure.

  • Now Create a sketch and draw a line tangent to the fillet and constrain it.
  • Use the multi extract feature to extract the shared edges of both the fillets which will act as a guide curve
  • Use the Sweep feature with subtype as 'With Reference Surface'. Choose the previously created line as the profile and the extracted curve as the guide curve:
  • Use the Surface Simplification feature on the swept surface. Extrapolated the smooth surface and offset it to 2.5mm:
  • Extract the inclined strip surface from the Class A surface: Untrim the surface and then extrapolate the untrimmed surface. create an offset of the extrapolated surface of 2.5mm:

Back Surface

  • Extract the back surface untrim and extrapolate. And off 2.5mm inside

Final trim

  • Trim the pocket surface and the middle surface together
  • Trim the upper back surface and the last trimmed surface together
  • Trim the fillet surface and the last trimmed surface together
  • Trim the modifies inclined split surface and the last trimmed surface together
  • Trim the top surface and the last trimmed surface together
  • Now trim the lower back surface and the last trimmed surface together
  • Finally, trim the frustum surface with the last trim

FILLETS

  • Fillet the edges using fillets based on the Class A surface.
  • The fillet radius should be determined with the component thickness in mind, so that the final part has a consistent thickness of 2.5mm when completed.

CLASS C SURFACE

  • Using the Multiple Extract feature, extract the outer flange's encircling walls:
  • Use the Swep feature to create a guide curve using the extracted boundary and a reference surface from the Class A surface.
  • Using the Class A surface as the reference surface, extract the hole boundary and speep it in the same way.
  • Join the Class A surface and the Class C surfaces using the Join feature
  • Finally, trim the above surfaces and the Class B Surface:

SOLID-BODY

  • Use the Close Surface feature and select the above surface to create a solid part

Draft analysis

  • Draft analysis should be done in two tooling directions main tooling direction and side core tooling direction

Conclusion

  • The main tooling axis and the side core tooling axis have been created successfully using the Feature Draft Analysis Tool.
  • Class B and Class C surfaces have been successfully created using the Class A surface as the reference.
  • Final Closed Surface has been created by using the Trim and Join feature.
  • The part body has been created using the final closed surface.
  • Draft analysis has been successfully done on the part body.
