Design of backdoor

DESIGN OF BACKDOOR

INTRODUCTION-

-The back door is the rear opening of a car which is used for accessing boot opening and closing for luggage storing purposes in some specific cases to access the rear seat for passengers in the rear row.

-It is also known as a trunk for tailgates it includes an inner panel, outer panel, styling surface, and reinforcements which are used to give some strength to the panel.

-The opening of the back door also depends upon the type of the vehicle and the different types of rear doors such as side-mounted, top-mounted, bottom-mounted, etc.

The manufacturing process of backdoor

-There are different metal forming processes used to manufacture the backdoor such as forming, stamping, forging, bending, Hydroforming, Taylor welded blank, etc.

-Stamping is the methodology widely used to produce the door panel a die and puncher are used in a press machine to stamp out the complete in a single or multiple presses.

-This method is used because it does not require a separate tool to manufacture the component also it is less time-consuming and requires less material time and cost for the part which is produced.

Design consideration for backdoor-

There are certain criteria to design the back door which has to be taken under consideration while designing a backdoor such as-

-Rear visibility criteria

-Rear crash regulation

-Function of filling join technique used

Joining processes of the backdoor-

-Hemming

The Hemming process is done to join the inner panel and outer panel edge spot welding creates bad texture which doesn't look good on the styling surface so the Hemming process is carried out to join the inner panel and outer panel by applying some sealant.

-Spot welding-

Components of the backdoor-

-Outer panel

-Inner panel

-Hinge reinforcement

-Wiper motor reinforcement

-Gas stay mounting reinforcement

-latch and striker reinforcement

-Embossing

Outer panel-

The outer panel is a styling surface that is given by the styling team to the design team to design an inner panel and give some strength to the back door.

Inner panel-

The inner panel is designed by taking the dimensions from the outer panel redesigned of sheet metal about 0.75mm thick to increase the strength of the back door.

Hinge reinforcement-

hinge reinforcement is given to strengthen that part as on the hinge the back door is mounted.

Wiper motor reinforcement-

The rear door wiper motor is mounted on the wiper motor reinforcement so to give some strength to the wiper motor Wiper motor reinforcement is given.

Latch and striker reinforcement-

The locking and unlocking mechanism of the rear door are done by the latch and the striker mechanism do some strength to that part religion striker reinforcement is given.

Gas-stay mounting reinforcement-

The gas stay is used to reduce the force of opening and closing the back door to introduce the gas stay mechanism the gas stay mounting reinforcement is given to give some strength to the mechanism.

Embossing-

-Draft analysis

outer pannel

Inner panel

Conclusion-

Completed the design of the back door with its functional components.

All the design consideration required for designing a backdoor was taken under consideration.

Draft analysis was also performed along the tooling access.
