Design of backdoor

                                                                  Design of Back Door

Objectives: To design a Back door assembly and develop the inner & outer panel of the back door by using the given styling data of the back door using the NX cad tool

introduction of Back Door

Backdoor or Tailgate is the hinged door at the rear part of a vehicle and can be moved up or down. It lets us access the boot space or trunk. The door or opening of a cargo area may be hinged at the top, side, or bottom. when hinged is placed at the bottom so that it opens downward. similarly when hinged is placed at the top so that it opens upward

Parts of Back door assemble:

  • Inner Panel
  • Outer Panel
  • Hinge Mounting Bracket
  • Hinge Inner Reinforcement
  • Latch Inner Reinforcement
  • Wiper Motor Mounting Bracket
  • Gas Stay mountings and reinforcement

Design of Inner Panel

Designed with consideration of given outer panel and followed with creating of embosses, mounting brackets, and necessary reinforcement.

Embosses are given to make the inner panel stiffer and good endurance while crash.

MASTIC DATA

Mastic is a type of glue or sealant which is used for joining two parts or panels. Must be a 5mm  gap between the outer panel and inner panel for applying mastic

Hemming and Relief and thickening

Hemming is the process of joining two surfaces using a set of rollers and bending the parent part over the subpart. Relief is given on the outer panel to decrease the stress concentration.

thickening both outer& inner panels of the Back door with 0.75.The inner panel thicken towards outerpanel

Latch placement

The hinge axis is taken as a center to draw a circle at the middle of the backdoor and the latch is placed perpendicular to that circle.

Reinforcement

1.Left&right sides of Hinges reinforcement

2.Wiper Motor reinforcement

3.Latch  Reinforcement

4.Gas Stay mountings and reinforcement

Draft analysis

Draft analysis is done to see whether the metal is drawn with a particular design without any tear in the metal of disfiguration.

It is done with 5 degrees of allowance. Green is good to go
