Design of Back Door

Aim
To Design the Backdoor of an Automotive Vehicle using NX CAD.

Objective
To Design Inner panel, Outer panel(Upper & Lower) with the help of reference surfaces.
To Design Reinforcements for hinge, Gas stay, wiper motor, Latch & Stricker.

Introduction
The back door of an automobile is also known as a Trunk or Tailgate or hatch door. The back door provides access to the luggage Compartment and it acts as an entry to passengers at the rear end in SUV. The back door is designed considering the safety of the passengers during the rear collision. Backdoors are mostly operated with the help of Gas-stays, which reduces the effort to lift the door and holds the position of the backdoor.

Back Door Components
1.Outer Panel Upper & Lower.
2.Inner Pannel.
3.Hinge Reinforcement.
4.Gas-Stay Reinforcement.
5.Wiper motor Reinforcement.
6.Latch & Striker Reinforcement.

Outer Panel
The outer panel acts as a styling surface, which is predesigned by the styling team. Both outer panel upper and outer panel lower are joined by spot welding, which together makes a complete outer panel.
The outer panel and the inner panel are joined with the process of hemming along the sides. Mastic Sealants are also used to join them together. Corner reliefs are provided at the edges of the outer panel for the hemming process.

Inner Panel
The inner panel is a very important component in the backdoor, which helps in strengthening the backdoor assembly. Reinforcements are attached to the inner panel to strengthen the specific mounting region of the inner panel.
Inner panel allocates the hinge reinforcement, gas stay reinforcements, wiper motor reinforcement, latch & striker reinforcements.

Inner Panel is designed considering the safety of the passengers during the rear collision of the vehicle.

Reinforcements
Reinforcements are included to strengthen the part of a particular area.
Reinforcement has to be designed to strengthen the inner panel at few regions, like things, gas stay, wiper motor mounting regions and latch and striker region.

The designed reinforcements are
1.Hinge reinforcement.
2.Gas stay reinforcement.
3.Latch and striker reinforcement.
4.Wiper motor reinforcement.

Conclusion
The Back door of the vehicle is designed as per the OEM standards, the safety of the passengers.
