Creating Conceptual mass in REVIT and Creation of Sinusoidal curve and a Parametric stadium using Dynamo

1) Using Dynamo create a set of sinusoidal points and create a curve and create a surface out of the curve.

Solution:

Aim: To use Dynamo and create a set of sinusoidal points and create a curve and create a surface out of the curve.

Procedure:

1. Open a new Revit model (in architectural template).

2. Under the manage tab, select dynamo and open a new project.

3. Make use of codeblocks, Sliders, Range, sine function, product operator, point by coordinates and nurbs curve by control points as shown to draw the sine curve.

4. Copy [aste the same code to create two different curves but with different y-coordinates.

5. The last step is to create the surface, hence use Surface by loft to create a surface with the sinusidal curves as their path.

Result:

The desired sinuidal surface is created.

2) Create a conceptual layout of floor plan in dynamo . Using the tools available in dynamo link the lines to appropriate model elements in Revit by choosing the wall types and wall parameters. Make use of the sliders to slide through the height of the wall and length of the wall.

Solution:

Aim: To create a conceptual layout of floor plan in dynamo . Using the tools available in dynamo link the lines to appropriate model elements in Revit by choosing the wall types and wall parameters.

Procedure:

1. Open a new Revit model an Open dynamo from manage tab.

2. In the dynamo workspace, create four points using points by coordinates.

3. Use line tool to connect the points to darw a quadrilateral which is the basic layout of the floor plan.

4. Then, search for wall by curve and height in the panel to add wall to the layout. Choose the level and wall type as you wish.

5. Check for the wall height and type from Revirt 3D view.

6. To add floor to the layout, using the tool floor by outline, type and level to add the floor to the layout.

Result:

The conceptual layout of floor plan is created as desired.

3) Create an array of model elements in Revit. Use dynamo to vary the properties of model elements by using the slider or code block

Solution:

Aim: To create an array of model elements in Revit.

Procedure:

1. Open a new project in revit.

2. Under the architecture tab, select columns to add them to model space as shown.

3. Now, open dynamo and use the 'select model elements' tool from the panel to select the columns.

4. Once the columns are selected in the revit model space the elements are automatically selected in the tool.

5. After selecting the columns use rotation tool from the model to rotate the columns.

Result:

An array of columns was created and they were rotated using Dynamo.

4) Create a conceptual mass in Revit and develop a parametric column by dividing the surfaces and apply the concepts similar to used in parametric walkway modelling. Use triangular bent or square shaped panels to add finish to the parametric column

Solution:

Aim: To create a conceptual mass in Revit and develop a parametric column by dividing the surfaces and apply the concepts similar to used in parametric walkway modelling.

Procedure:

1. Open Revit and the Open families >> Conceptual mass >> mass.

2. Go to any elevation view and change make level 2 at a height of 15'0".

3. Model line using spline tool and draw points.

4. Set reference planes at each control points and add polygons at the same (with radius = 15cm).

5. Select the model line and one polygon and go to create form tool to create the form.

5. Now, select the entire model and check only on form to select it

6. Now, select the divide surface tool and select triangular bent tool.

7. Now, open a new family>> curtain panel pattern based template.

8. Now select the pattern as triangular bent.

9. Create a reference point at the centre point of the surface. Draw a circle of 3" at refernec point.

10. Now, select the pattern, reference plane, circle created and choose forum.

11. Now, load this into the project.and select the enitre form of the walkway and filter it to retain only the divided surface. Then in the pattern select the family that we havee created just now.

Result:

The desired conceptual mass has been created.

5) Use Dynamo to work on developing a Parametric Stadium. List your parameters and use the visual programming approach to complete the modelling, You can use the concepts discussed in parametric high rise tower in class for reference.

Solution:

Aim: Use Dynamo to work on developing a Parametric Stadium.

Procedure:

1. Initially open a new architectural template in Revit and then open dynamo. Basic parameters to design a high rise structure is created as input in dynamo. Use integer sliders for basic parameters.

2. Now, insert a code block from the library to combine level and floor to floor height. Now, connect the integer sliders named as levels and floor to floor hegiht as input to the code block.

3. Now, search coordinates by origin in the library and insert it. Then connect the code block as input for z coordinate in the coordinate by origin block.

4. Five points are generated corresponding to 5 levels. Then insert rectangle by width and length from the library. Connect the inputs of lenght and width to rectangles.

5. Now we have to rotate the geometry.

So, for this insert the rotate block from the library. The inputs required are:

  • Geometry : Rectangle block
  • Origin: insert an origin block from the library.
  • Axis: insert vector Z axis from the library.
  • Degrees: For this insert a code block and type Bottom..Top level. The inputs for this code block is already available i.e Bottom floor rotation, top floor rotation and levels.

6. Now, we have to create surface, for this type surface by loft in library. Then connect Geometry.rotate block as input for Surface by loft.

7. Hence, the parametric stadium have been created. The number of levels and width and length of the rectangle can varied accordingly.

Result:

The parametric stadium is created as desired.
