Concept on positioning of Columns
A1 symmetry - the positioning is good in both directions. It has good uniformity also. districution of masss and stiffness along the plan has good symmetrical aspects.
redundacy - the energy dissipation across the structure is very low which causes unreliability.
it will cause uneven distribution of energy in case of an earthquake.
Bi-directional stiffness - building plan may not be able to resist horizontal seismic actions in the shorter direction (y axis) also resistance and stiffness in shorter direction is less compared to longer direction.
Ductility - building may not be able to resist plastic earthquake forces in shorter direction (Y axis) so it may have inelastic response. reduction in design force should be compensated by ductility.
A2 Soft storey irregularity -
the upper floors are strong and stiff due to masonary fill
column in one storey is longer than above.
Provisions to avoide irregularities -
torsionally irregular so building frame must be revised
mass irregularity should also be avoided by providing similar kind of concrete
structure should be build symmetrically and systematically
weight of building should decrease upwards.
A3 - structure is not symmetrical
Focus should be on ductility and not strength
masonary walls have no proper placement
redundancy in the vertical direction is not provided.
