Challenge 4-Windshield Modeling

Challenge-5-Windshield Modeling

Aim: Design the front windshield from the given styling surface and also provides the headliner and the required thickness.

Windshield

The windshield or windscreen of a car, bu, truck, train etc., provides visibility while protecting occupants from the outer elements, dust, air etc., and also provides safety during an accident. It is used in front a well as in the rear. It consists of glass and gradient line, same were represented in the below figure. The gradient line or headliner is a filament which will be attached with the windscreen and it will hide the area or parts which are not good for the aesthetic look. Usually its thickness was considered 4.7 mm.

Different types of windshield

Early windshields were made of ordinary window glass, but that could lead to serious injuries in the event of a crash. A series of crashes led up to the development of stronger windshields and same were explained in the proceeding sections.

  1. Curved Laminated glass

Modern windshields are often made of laminated safety glass, which is a form of heat-treated glass composed of two curved sheets of glass with a plastic layer (polyvinyl butyral film) fused between them for safety and glued into the window frame. This results in a thicker, more durable window. They are regarded as one of the safest types of glass since they are difficult to break or shatter. The majority of automobile windshields are comprised of laminated glass.

Manufacturing process

  1. Curved tempered glass

It consists of only one piece of glass. Tempered glass is utilized for the exact opposite reason that laminated glass is used for windshields. Tempered glass is significantly more easily broken than laminated glass and is created in one of two methods. Glass can be tempered using chemicals or a particular heating at 650- 680 °C and rapid cooling procedure into air jet. This method results in a breakable glass that breaks into small pieces with rounded edges, hence the other name "safety glass." While both types of glass have different functions and applications in terms of safety, they both work together with the rest of your car's safety measures to protect you and your family in the event of an accident. Majorly it is used in the side glass and rear glass application

Manufacturing process

Design of front Windshield Modeling

First create the gradient line or headliner for the windshield.

Then create the glass with respect to the headliner.

Finally, provides the required thickness to both headliner and glass.

Conclusion:

The windscreen was created with respect to the given styling surfaces by considering all the design parameters. And finally, the required thickness was applied to it.
