Benchmarking
BENCH MARKING:
"Benchmarking is a process of measuring the performance of a company' Products, Services or Processes against those of another business considered to be best in the class". In Simple words Benchmarking can be called as "Technical Comparison" There are some steps in Benchmarking Process
1- Planning
2- Collection Of Information
3- Analysis Of Data
4- Implementation
5- Monitoring
Here we are concerned with Benchmarking of AUTOMOBILE (Passenger Car in specific). The complete Development process of a Car take 3-6 years in general. There are some certain steps that are need to be followed for the development of a Car. The very first and most important step is Pre-design and Development. This step lays the foundation of development of a car. This step will Decide that "What we are going to develop".
This Step included two types of Benchmarking that are as follows:-
(i) Benchmarking] :- This involves Technical Comparison and Analysis at Product or Car Level. Here the concerned engineer will compare their product to be made with already present products in market such as Defining the Competitors, comparing the Prize and other major Specifications.
(in) Benchmarking 2:- It is further step of Benchmarking where the emphasis is laid solely over a particular part of the car such as Hood, Roof etc, and the the comparison and analysis is done over this particular commodity. Here the focus is at more precise level where the analysis will be done with taking Thickness, weight etc of the particular part such as roof in consideration to affect the Car body as whole.
The point of benchmarking is to identify internal opportunities for improvement. By studying companies with superior performance, breaking down what makes such superior performance possible, and then comparing those
processes to how your business operates, you can implement changes that will yield significant improvements. That might mean tweaking a product's features to more closely match a competitor's offering, or changing the scope of services you offer, or installing a new customer relationship management (CRM) system to enable more personalized communications with customers. There are two basic kinds of improvement opportunities: continuous and dramatic. Continuous improvement is incremental, involving only small adjustments to reap sizeable advances. Dramatic improvement can only come about through reengineering the whole internal work processes
BENEFITS:
In addition to helping companies become more efficient and profitable, benchmarking has other benefits, too, such as:
- Improving employee understanding of cost structures and internal processes
- Encouraging team-building and cooperation in the interests of becoming more competitive
- Enhancing familiarity with key performance metrics and opportunities for improvement company-wide
Major Demands To Be Addressed:

Safety:- Safety is one of the most sought out demand in today's world anywhere and while driving it is even more important. Adding to that there is a 5 year old son and 2 old Parents.
