Benchmarking
Aim:To Prepare a report suggesting Mr.D.S. Pughazhyendhii to buy a car with budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road.
One might rejoice at the idea of purchasing a car due to the convenience that comes along with it. However, if not done properly, it can turn into a nightmare. In order to ensure that you purchase the car that not only suits your requirements and situation, but is easy on the pocket as well. See the steps mentioned below to learn about the points you should remember before buying a four-wheeler:
- Fix the budget
- Choose between new and preowned car
- Decide the car you want
- Check the resale value
- Perform through research
- Secure your finance before hand
- Look for options
- Pricing
- Mileage
- Maintainance cost
- Driving Experience
It used to be so simple: most cars had petrol engines, most vans and lorries used diesel. Now we’ve got a range of power sources to consider when choosing new vehicles. It makes the decisions for fleet operators and business drivers much harder. -
Petrol
PROS
- Biggest infrastructure, with more petrol fuel pumps
- Best driving enjoyment, thanks to the high-revving, responsive engines producing exciting sound
- The cheapest to buy
CONS
- Petrol vehicles depreciate the fastest
- Contains carcinogens such as benzene. Burning petrol produces dangerous greenhouse gases
- The price of petrol is volatile
- Oil is a finite resource
- Petrol is a dangerous substance to store and handle
Diesel
PROS
- Lower lifetime cost than petrol because of lower depreciation
- Engines last longer and tolerate much higher mileages than petrol
- More efficient (by around 25% compared to petrol) so fuel costs are less, providing pump prices stay close. Diesel’s better mpg becomes more pronounced over long distance journeys. Some diesels can even be more fuel-efficient than a petrol hybrid
- Produce less CO2, so road tax is lower than petrol
- Higher torque or pulling power means mid-range acceleration of larger diesel cars is often better than sports cars. This pulling power is why diesel is used for commercial vehicles: it can pull much greater loads than any other option here
CONS
- More expensive than petrol to buy (historically)
- Produce nitrous oxides, hydrocarbons and particulates, so not necessarily greener than petrol
- Insurance is higher for diesels than petrols, by up to 15% - because they cost more to replace or repair
- Engines generally require a little less routine servicing but if they do go wrong, repair costs are higher. Latest figures show diesel engines are slightly less reliable than petrol
- Volatile fuel price
- Oil is a finite resource
Hybrid
PROS
- Much cleaner and more fuel efficient, especially in urban motoring
- Resale values high
- Low tax bills and congestion charges
- The conventional engine means there are no range limits
CONS
- Generally much more expensive than petrol vehicles to buy
- Maintenance may require specialist skills. Batteries expensive to replace
- Hybrids emit more emissions than a pure electric vehicle
- Plug-in hybrids need a dedicated charging infrastructure and take hours to recharge.
- Refinement: The overall refinement of diesel engines is lacking in terms of Noise Vibration and Harshness levels compared to petrol engines. However, in high-end car models, the diesel engines are so refined that you can hear only a marginal sound of the engine clatter. If you aren't picky about the sound and vibration of a diesel engine clatter, then you can opt for a diesel engine to power the car of your choice.
- Power: Petrol engines produce better power and low torque whereas diesel engines generate higher power and lower torque. What this essentially means is that a petrol engine gives better initial pick-up but lags when there is a shift to lower gears whereas a diesel engine will take time to during the initial pickup but respond well to acceleration in the midst of driving. If you prefer a swift initial pick-up in your car, then opt for a petrol engine but if you desire the sudden thrust of power, then go for a diesel engine.
- Mileage: Cars powered by diesel engines deliver superior mileage to petrol cars. Furthermore, the price of petrol is higher than diesel in most states across the country. Clearly, diesel cars preferable for better mileage and lower cost of fuel.
- Maintenance: When it comes to servicing and maintenance of diesel and petrol cars, they come with their own set of pros and cons. If you primarily use your vehicle for short-distance driving, then opt for a petrol car. Diesel cars are more suited for long-distance driving as it is economical in terms of fuel costs. However, in terms of maintenance, diesel cars have higher servicing and maintenance costs compared to petrol cars.Engines are generally smaller, so produce less pulling power for larger loads
When is a diesel car preferable to a petrol car? If the expected mileage of your car is around 50-70 km per day, you plan on driving the same car for minimum a decade, use the vehicle as a taxi, and the price difference between the petrol and diesel variant of the car is only Rs.50,000. When is a petrol car preferable to a diesel car? If the expected mileage of your car is less than 50 km per day and the price difference between the petrol and diesel variant of the car is more than Rs.1 lakh.
From the above points and considering Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii requirements i would recommend him for petrol variant engine.
Now in step2 we need to select him best body car from his budget falls between 8 to 10 lakh and is found of big cars.
I would suggest him for compact suvs.

- Its a great family car, good mileagr, decent look and good resale price for Maruthi Suzuki
- As of Mahindra XUV 300 is also considerable with top class safety features and its low boot space is not ideal for travelling with family as Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii often travels although its bit expensive also than Vitara breeza.
