Benchmarking

BENCHMARKING – CASE STUDY FOR SUGGESTING A CAR WITH CUSTOMER’S REQUIREMENT
Aim:
To do case study on present available cars in the market to give a suggestion for the customer’s specific requirement.
Introduction:
Benchmarking:
Benchmarking is a process of measuring the performance of a company’s products, services, or processes against those of another business considered to be the best in the industry, aka “best in class.” The point of benchmarking is to identify internal opportunities for improvement. By studying companies with superior performance, breaking down what makes such superior performance possible, and then comparing those processes to how your business operates, you can implement changes that will yield significant improvements.
In simple words:
- Benchmarking is evaluating something by comparison with a standard.
Methodology:
There is no single benchmarking process that has been universally adopted.
The wide appeal and acceptance of benchmarking has led to the emergence of benchmarking methodologies.
Robert Campdeveloped a 12-stage approach to benchmarking.
The 12-stage methodology consists of:
- Select subject
- Define the process
- Identify potential partners
- Identify data sources
- Collect data and select all partners
- Determine the gap
- Establish process differences
- Target future performance
- Communicate
- Adjust goal
- Implement
- Review and recalibrate.
Types of Benchmarking:
Benchmarking can be internal (comparing performance between different groups or teams within an organization) or external (comparing performance with companies in a specific industry or across industries).
Within these broader categories, there are three specific types of benchmarking:
- Process benchmarking,
- Performance benchmarking and
- Strategic benchmarking.
These can be further categorisedin detail as follows:
- Process benchmarking
- Financial benchmarking
- Benchmarking from an investor perspective
- Benchmarking in the public sector
- Performance benchmarking
- Product benchmarking
- Strategic benchmarking
- Functional benchmarking
- Best-in-class benchmarking
- Operational benchmarking
- Energy benchmarking
Objective:
The main objective for this case study is to provide a good suggestion for the customer to buy a good car with his requirements in his budget.
Our Customer is Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii. The case study is going to be done with his requirement as preferences.
Lets have a look into his requirements:
“Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

Among comparison of the Five Suv’s, I decided to pick two cars for Mr.Pugazhyendhii,
i.e. Tata Nexon and Nissan Magnite.
As Tata Nexon comes with an outstanding sunroof option which will be good thing to satisfy his family, mainly his little boy. Because the other models like Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet offer it for an extra pay of 1.14 lakhs to 1.45 lakhs than the listed models. That will cost around 12 to 13 lakhs on road to buy.
To provide good out of his budget, Tata Nexon is a Choice.
Nissan Magnite doesn’t provides sunroof option but it’s a promising suv with good mileage, big spacious leg rooms and some better features.
While preferring a car for Mr. Pugazhyendhii, I first thought to omit his big car fond preference and I started searching for a car that would really satisfy his family.
But while peeking into Nissan Magnite, I really thought that his dream comes true.
Eventhough, Maruti Vitara Bizzera takes the market by a storm by this quarter, I just choose this two cars to suggest Mr.Pugazhyendhii. When it comes to seating Maruti says thats its a 5 seater but the legroom space and cabin makes it feel like an absolute 4 seater. It wouldn’t be a good choice for a long 500 km drive of a 5 member family. Kia Sonet provides a good boot space but not a good legroom space and a good interior for that price (as its interiors and seating design makes quite uncomfortable for a trip of 5 members). Hyundai Venue interiors are good and have good legroom but for that price the features provided are less when compared to Nissan Magnite.
Among Tata Nexon and Nissan Magnite, I would really prefer him the Nissan Magnite. Even though Tata Nexon provides sunroof option, I really thought he is taking his family once in a month to his native place. And in crowded city he even avoids this option for some reason. His little boy will also be satisfied with the masculine sport look of Nissan Magnite and his family will really feel great comfort during their journey to their native place as Nissan Magnite has a good legroom space when compared to Tata Nexon. And it’s the only Automatic transmission car in this budget. So, I final the Nissan Magnite.

- Good Boot Space.

- Air bags for good safety.

- Well Spacious Cabin

- Good designed interiors and spacious legrooms.
Conclusion:
On Comparing five cars I would suggest Nissan Magnet to Mr.Pugazhyendii, Because it provides a good pleasant and control ride in the crowded city like Bangalore with CVT (Automatic Transmission) and does a better performance of speeding 0-100 in just 13.4 sec in Highway. It stands ahead from the list with safety features like EBD, ESP and plenty of worthy features in this budget. So, Nissan Magnet Turbo CVT XL would be my suggestion for Mr.Pugazhyendii and his family.
And finally, a case study on present available cars is successfully done and suggestion for the right car is made as per the customer’s requirement.
