Benchmarking

A BRIEF REPORT ON BENCHMARKING:

WHAT IS BENCHMARKING:

Benchmarking is the process of measuring the performance and specification of the competitor's products/processes.

Benchmarking involves a detailed comparision of similar products and then lisiting the performance of the competition. Making a detailed study with the best in every specification metrics and comparing these specifications with own product. Also after the detailed study, we can decide what will be the least acceptable and ideal performance for our product.

Benchmarking can be done for similar products; comparing all the similar products available in market. It can also be done for dissimilar products from the same company; this comparision will highlight the difference of the market demand for each product.

Benchmarking can also be done for the process or method of manufacturing of the product and finding the most suitable method of production.

For correctly suggesting a vehicle for Mr D.S. Pughazhyendhii, we need to compare and benchmark the cars available in the market with the given inputs:

1. Budget: 8-10 Lakh

2. Dimensions: Car must be spacious for family of 5 when doing long trips(500km). Also, as Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii likes big cars, dimensions must be bigger.

3. Fuel average: As Mr. Pughazhyendhii will use the car for commuting to office, the fuel average must be high.

4. Power: Car must be powerful for longer trips on highway.

5. Comfort: Automatic cars can be preferred for longer trips for driver's comfort in city traffic and longer highway commute.

6. Safety: Car must be safeest in segment.

OUTPUT:

Form the given inputs and general factors in care ownership, we can derive that:

1. Body type: As comfort is a big factor, Compact SUVs are the best in the segment, they have better visibility, are more comfortable for longer commute, are generally more spacious than sedans and hatchbacks.

2. Fuel Type: As diesel cars are phased out gradually, and fully electric cars do not have range of 500km yet, best option wil be Petrol and CNG cars.

3. Features: Cars must have better features for overall comfort and entertainment while travelling.

Now Comparing Cars in the budget range:

After studying the comparision between the vehicles, Mr. Pughazhyendhii can go with Maruti Fronxx or Mahindra XUV300.

Fronxx has much greater milege without sacrificing power or safety, on the other hand XUV300 is much more powerful than others and it has bigger dimensions as well, but it has the least fuel efficiency. I would suggest Mr. Pughazhyendhii to go with XUV 300 for its greater power and torque and wider body fopr greater comfort.
