BENCHMARKING CASE STUDY
Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.
Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars.
BREAKING DOWN THE CASE OF Mr. D.S Pughazhyendhii
- He lives in Bangalore, which is a congested city with small roads and heavy traffic. So choosing a small car will be a good option.
- His family consists of 5 members only. So, a five-seater car will be a handy choice. But since his parents are older a car with a comfortable second row will be a better option i.e. a wider car would be very comfortable. Bigger boot space is also a requirement considering the monthly trip to his native.
- He uses the car for daily commute as well as a long trip once a month, therefore mileage is a big concern. So, I would recommend him to opt for the Diesel Even though, the price of the diesel car is on the upper hand, it will not be a big factor considering the mileage and the price difference between petrol and diesel.
- His budget is between Rs 8 to10 lakhs.
- It is to be noted that he is fond of big cars.
Considering all the above points, I would suggest him to choose between a midsized sedan, Crossovers and Compact SUV’S
Since he is fond of big cars I think a Compact SUV would better suit him.

RECOMMENDATION FOR Mr. D.S Pughazhyendhii
From the above comparison and the requirement of the customer all the four cars are more or less with same features and specifications
Both KIA sonet and Hyundai venue are good in mileage compared to the other two cars but the rear seat space and comfort will be a biggest hindrance to comfortably occupy 5 members of the family.
Tata nexon’s turbocharged engine gives a puchy power output both in city as well as in the highways and Ford Ecosports diesel engine is also on par with the one in Tata nexon and is also fun to drive.
Tata nexon has the best in class ground clearance of 209 mm which makes it easy and comfortable while driving over small pot holes and speed breakers.
Tata nexon has a upper hand in rear seat comfort thanks to the extra width of the car as compared to the other three. The rear seat can comfortably occupy three adults.
Tata nexon has mileage slighty less than kia sonet and Hyundai venue but the drive mode selection will help optimise the fuel usage as per requirements and thus will improve the mileage of the car.
Tata nexon outperforms the competitors in safety with NCAP 5 star rating which is also the first Indian car to achieve it and other three cars are not even near to it.
The after service provided by tata is incompareable to others.
With all the four cars which are in the price range of Mr. D.S Pughazhyendhii i.e. Rs 8-10 lakhs , I would recommend him to go with TATA NEXON ,which will well suit his requirements.
