Benchmarking
Benchmarking: Benchmarking in the automobile industry involves a structured comparison between similar products, services or processes on some dimensions of performance. The main goal of benchmarking is to identify errors for improvement. By studying companies with same profession, breaking down their products that makes such superior sales and performance, and then comparing those processes to how our business operates, one can implement changes that will yield significant improvements.
In terms of automotive industry benchmarking is done with comparison of cars with competitors in terms of price, specs and features or concept like whether it will be a 4 seater,5 seater will it be a sub 4 meter category or more than that an entry level sedan or suv. Even a carryover study is carried out for every new generation car suppose Honda launches its city in every few years so they will study that what all parts from previous generation can be used in my new generation car such as they can use same suspensions or brakes from the previous generations.
Even there is a Bnechmarking 2 process in which detailed benchmarking of 1 will be done where every individual will be working on single commodity such as if a person is working on sunroof then he will study following things:
1) His car sunroof
2) His parent car sunroof
3) His competitor's car sunroof
Even part level analysis will be done such as :
- Material
- Thickness
- No of parts
- Total weight

Every vehicle has its own pros and cons. Every automaker is trying harder than ever to achieve optimum performance levels and attract more customers. The main goal is to reduce the weight of the car without affecting saftey in order to increase the performance and give world class safety features
So before any product is launched benchmarking is the first stage which is carried out in order to launch a product in market.

Conclusion : Benchmarking

Although all the four cars are fabulous but If we look at the power figure Tata nexon has the highest power among all four cars and has decent mileage with a difference of 1 to 3 kmpl with the other three cars and also has a Global NCAP safety rating of 5 stars which i think is the most important factor which one should consider before buying a car as safety of passengers is more important so i would like to suggest Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii to buy Tata Nexon for him and his family members.
