Benchmarking
BENCHMARKING
Introduction
Benchmarking is a structured way of comparing the product of one company with those of other companies so that the resultant information can be applied towards improvement. It helps to set a target value to achieve a better performance of the product. In this report, you can find 4 5+ seater cars compared with each other to help Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii to choose a car that performs both on city and highways.
In this report that cars that are compared are Renault Triber RXT EASY-R AMT, Renault Kiger RXT AMT, Maruti Brezza Lxi, Tata Punch Accomplished AMT, Since these are the one among the top brands and also matches his description.
Key Features
This section explains what are all the features that each car has. It includes features that are responsible for both comfort and safety. A car with more features is always more desirable.
Key Specifications
Mileage
It tells you how many kilometers a car can run on one liter. In this report, the mileage value is taken in three scenarios.
- ARAI Mileage- It is calculated in ARAI test tracks.
- City Mileage- It is calculated while driving in cities.
- Highway Mileage- It is calculated while driving on highways.
Fuel type
This field describes whether the fuel is electric, hybrid, petrol, diesel or CNG. For petrol, diesel and CNG there is a well-established infrastructure whereas, for Electric, the infrastructure is developing at a faster rate and it takes a longer time to refuel than other types of fuels. On the other hand, with environmental regulations and standards like BS6, the hydrocarbon vehicle will become more and more expensive. Among the five types, at present petrol vehicles and electric vehicles are more suitable, since petrol vehicle is suitable for both highway as well as in cities.
Conclusion: Since, in the given case, He is traveling from Bangalore to Madurai often, I would consider choosing an electric car if it has a reasonable recharging time and a range of a minimum of 150 km.
In this comparison, I have taken only petrol vehicles, since electric vehicles for his preferred taste is not meeting his budget.
Maximum Power
As the name indicates, it is the maximum power produced by the engine at a particular rpm. For Electric, the power is constant at all ranges.
Maximum Torque
It is the maximum Torque produced by an Engine at a particular rpm. For an electric motor, the torque can be varied or kept constant depending on the use of the power train.
Transmission Type
This field denotes whether the Gearbox is Automatic Manual Transmission, Continuously Variable Transmission or Manual transmission.
Boot Space
It is the space where the passengers use to store their luggage while traveling. The more the luggage, the more customer satisfaction for that car.
Fuel Tank Capacity
It is the amount of fuel that can be stored in the car. More the amount of fuel less there is need to be refueled.
Body Type
It is the style of the body. In this comparison MUV and SUV’s are present.
Safety Rating
These safety ratings are for the crash test done by NCAP (New Car Assessment Program). It is rated out of 5 with 5 as the safest car.
Dimensions
Overall Length, Width
These parameters are important while driving in cities and highways in different ways. In cities, having smaller width and length helps a car maneuver through traffic. Also, having a small wheelbase and trackwidth helps to reduce the turning radius(radius of the smallest circle that a car can make at full steering wheel lock) of the car. This helps in making U-turns and parking the vehicle in tight spaces. While on highways, the vehicle will be traveling at high speeds. At these speeds, vehicle stability is important during lane change as lateral load transfer kicks in. Hence it is desirable to have a car that has a low ground clearance and low height to achieve the minimum center of gravity height for increased stability.
The below table gives a comprehensive comparison of various parameters in addition to the above.
