Problem Set-1b Week 11Challenge : Basic Handling parameters

  1. `delta_ackerman=(180/3.142)*(L/R)`

where L is the wheel base and R is the turning radius.

L=100.6in=8.383ft

R=500ft,200ft,50ft

`delta_(ackerman)=(180/3.142)*(100.6/6000)=0.961deg`

`delta_(ackerman)=(180/3.142)*(100.6/2400)=2.401deg`

`delta_(ackerman)=(180/3.142)*(100.6/600)=9.605deg`

2.Understeer gradient `K=W_f/C_(alpha_f)-W_r/C_(alpha_r)`

`W_f/C_(alpha_f)=950/232.11=4.092`

`W_r/C_(alpha_r)=776/195.24=3.975`

K=4.092-3.975=0.117(deg)/g

3.Characteristic Velocity `V_(char)=sqrt((180/3.142)*Lg/K)`

`V_(char)=sqrt((180/3.142)*8.383*32.174/0.117)`

`V_(char)=363.406(ft)/s=247.776mph`

4.Lateral acceleration gain `a_(yg) =a_y/delta`

let `x=V^2/((180/3.142)*L*g)=88^2/(57.288*8.383*32.174)=0.501`

`a_(yg) =x/(1+K*x)=0.501/(1+0.117*0.501)=0.473g/(deg)`

5.Yaw velocity gain =`r/delta=(V/L)/(1+K*x)=9.916`

6.sideslip angle `beta=(180/3.142)*l_r/R -alpha_r `

`l_r=L*W_f/(W_f+W_r)=8.383*0.550=4.611ft`

`alpha_R=W_r/C_(alpha_r)*V^2/(R*g)=3.975*88^2/(800*32.174)=1.195deg`

`beta=-0.865deg`(negative sign indicates beta is n clockwise direction)

7.The law of deminishing makes the change in cornering stiffness at higher weights minimum. To produce more understeer we have to increase the weight distribution drastically
