Assignment 2-RADIOSS Engine File Editing & 3D Meshing Challenge
OBJECTIVE
In this assignment, to calculate the speed of sound, time taken for the shock wave to travel and termination time of the rail and the remaining calculations.
PROCEDURE
1. Check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in steel rail=58750.97
formula for sound c=`sqrt`E/`rho`
rho=0.0078, e=210000.0, these values are taken from the starter file.
sound,c=58750.97
2. The length of the rail is about 1000 mm. calculate the time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other.= 0.017020
l=1000, c=58750.97
`del`t=l/c
t=0.017020.
3. Time for sound to travel length of rail= 0.017020
4. Edit the engine file so that the stress wave can be monitored, moving from one end of the rail to the other during impact -this will require a termination time equal to the time it takes for the sound to travel the length of the rail(set on/RUN card).
Now we need to edit the engine card with the calculated values.

5. Set the frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animation steps(/ANIM/DT)
so the frequency of printing the animation frames will be total number of the termination time.
t=0.017020/20
/ANIM/DT
0.000851
6. we dont need to change anything for this question.
7. 3D meshing and tetra meshing.
for the housing model i try with the volume mesh without deleting the solids. then i face a more tetcollapse error in the model, and i cant remesh the elements to solve.
and then i proceed with the 2d tria mesh for the surface and make it tetra mesh in the solid mesh deck.
here also we have a 7 tet fail elements, but i cant fix them.

for the hexa meshing, like the instructer guide. i done with his methods in a perfect way. and its very easy to mesh this part with tetra elements.
linear solid with geometry lines and nodes, solid maping with the destination surface can be used much in this method.

Results and conclusion
In this challenge we have calculated the speed of sound and time taken for the shockwave and the frequency of the animation in the total termination time. This can be edited for simulation in the starter file.
