Assignment 2-RADIOSS Engine File Editing & 3D Meshing Challenge

Answers to Questions:
1.Material properties of steel for the given model is E=210000N/mm^2 and Rho= 7.8e-3g/mm^3
- Speed of sound through steel is C=√E/Rho
- Speed of sound C= √210000/7.8e-3 =5188.74m/s
2.Time for the sound wave to travel the length of the rail = Distance/ Speed of sound
- Length of rail =1000mm (1m)
- Time to travel= 1/5188.74 =0.19ms
3.Frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animations steps= time/no. of animations
- Time frequency= 0.19/20 =0.0095
The Objective of the Challenge:
- To understand the format of Radioss engine file. And editing the values without opening the file in any preprocessor.
- To understand 3D ( Hexa and Tetra) modeling techniques.
3D (Hexa) model creation steps fallowed: (Element Size=10mm)
- Element offset option in 3D menu is used to create a platform to create platform portion of Arm bracket
- The spin option is used o create a curvy portion of the model
- The linear solid option is used to capture the taper region of the model
- A solid map option is used to create the bass portion of the model.
3D (Tetra) model creation steps fallowed:
- 2D tria shell elements are created on the outer surface for both the parts of the “Housing model”.(Element Size=5mm)
- Converted 2D shell elements to 3D tetra elements using the “tetra mesh” option in the 3D menu.
- Tet collapse for 0.15 is cleared (some failed elements are cleared by defeaturing small fillets in geometry)
