Assignment 2-RADIOSS Engine File Editing & 3D Meshing Challenge

1)Calculate the speed of sound in steel rail:

Given-

Density = 0.0078 (g/mm3), Young's Modulus = 210000 (MPa)

Formula for speed of sound c = sqrt(E/RHO)

c = 5.1 e3 (mm/ms)

2) Given; l=1000 mm

Time taken for the shock wave t = d/c

t = 0.2 (ms)

3) Time for sound to travel length of rail = 0.2 ms

4)Engine file editing:

changed run time to 0.2 ms and ANIM/DT: tfeq=0.01

Conclusion:

3D-meshing:

Housing component;

3D meshing is performed by two methods;

1) First by creating 2D tria on the surface and performing 3D Tetra mesh

2) Directly opting the volumeterta mesh option.

HEXAMESH:

For Hexamesh, Solid map, Linear solid, spin and auto mesh commands are used.

1)Base component: First 2D quads are created with a element size of 10mm and using solid map the elements are extended to the other surface to create HEXA elements.

2)ARM curve componet:The elements are spined about an arc point to angle of 90

3)ARM straight component is created using linear solid command, where the source and destination elements are selected and meshed. To obtain the source elements faces are created.

4)BOSE componet: finally the bose, using solid map.
