Assignment 2-RADIOSS Engine File Editing & 3D Meshing Challenge

OBJECTIVE:

To answer all the given questions with calculations and Perform the 3D meshing for the given models.

1. Check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in steel rail = 5188.75 m/s.

Y / E =210000 N/mm2

Rho / ρ = 0.0078 g/mm3

The speed of sound in a solid the depends on the Young's modulus of the medium and the density, v=√(Y/ρ).

v=Sqrt[\(40)Divide[210000,0.0078]\(41)]=5188.75 m/s

2.The length of the rail is about 1000 mm.calculate the time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other.

Distance(1000mm=given)=speed*time

Time=1000/5188.75=0.1927 msec

3.Time for sound to travel length of rail=0.19 msec

Distance(F4-measuring distance between extreme nodes)=speed*time

Thus Time=distance/speed=1001.249/5188.75=0.1929 msec

4.Edit the engine file so that the stress wave can be monitored, moving from one end of the rail to the other during impact -this will require a termination time equal to the time it takes for the sound to travel the length of the rail(set on/RUN card)

5.Set the frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animation steps(/ANIM/DT)

Tfreq=Runtime/No. of steps=0.1927/20

t=0.009635

6.Change /print -10.
