Assignment 2-RADIOSS Engine File Editing & 3D Meshing Challenge
1. Check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in steel rail=_______

we have rho = .0078
youngs modulus E= 210000
therefore c = undertoot(rho/E)
undertoot(210000/.0078)
c = 5188.78 mm/ms
2. The length of the rail is about 1000 mm. calculate the time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other.
length = 1000mm
therefore time takes is delta t= L(t)/C
= 1000/5188.74
= .192725 ms
3. Time for sound to travel the length of rail= time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other
therefore, Time for sound to travel the length of rail= .192725
4. Edit the engine file so that the stress wave can be monitored, moving from one end of the rail to the other during an impact -this will require a termination time equal to the time it takes for the sound to travel the length of the rail(set on/RUN card)
The engine file was edited according to the above-calculated values, as shown in the below image

= .192725/20
= .009636 ms

6.Change /print -10.

7.3d meshing tetra mesh and hex mesh
- Target tet size=5mm,hex size=10mm,tet collapse=0.15
Tetra mesh
procedure:
- In the given housing model we want to do 3-d meshing with given quality criteria
1.Import

2. Geometry cleanup

3.Mesh

5. tet collapse

Hexa Meshing
- hex size=10mm
1. Import

- We can divide this solid into 4 parts
1. Base:
- Mesh the base according to criteria with quad elements

2. Arm 1
- For arm 1, we can use spin operation for creating Hexa mesh from shell elements

3. Arm 2
- for arm 2 we used the linear solid method

4. Head
For head, we will use the solid map
