Assignment 2

1. Run the case at 1800 RPM and the following parameters are noted as below:

RESULTS :

PLOTS AND TABLES:

output values:

  • air flow rate = 24.6 kg/h
  • BMEP = IMEP - FMEP = 10.61-1.13 = 9.48 bar
  • BSFC = 239.2 g/kW-h
  • In-cylinder pressure = 48.89 bar

2. Run the case at 3600 RPM and noted down the parameters. Furthermore, the parameters are changed like bore and stroke to increase brake power value by 10%.

The brake power was recorded by running 3600 RPM as the value :

The Brake power for 3600 rpm was found to be 16.7 kW. The brake power is required to be increased by 10% by changing a few parameters i.e, Stroke length, Bore diameter, and C.R (It cannot have a very high value in SI engines as it might results in more knocking), etc.

1.Stroke length:

The 5 cases were considered by incrementing values like 86, 89, 92, 95, 98 respectively.

Case 4 was found to be more appropriate as the stroke length of 95 mm lead to an increase in brake power by 10 percent. The brake power was increased from 16.7 to 18.4 kW i.e approximately 10%.

2.Bore Diameter:

The 5 cases were considered by incrementing values like 86, 88, 90, 92, 94 respectively.

Case 3 was found to be more appropriate as the bore diameter of 90 mm lead to an increase in brake power by 10 percent. The brake power was increased from 16.7 to 18.4 kW i.e approximately 10%.
