Analysis & Design of RCC shear walls in the model using ETABS

aim:

Run the analysis and design the RCC shear walls, specifically with the shear wall of size 300x1500 at grid A-11 in the structural model.

procedure:

1)

extracting the values from the etabs.

open the file on etabs, run the model for the analysis.

once the model is analysed, change the view to plan.

set the mode to all storey select the shearwall on the grid intersecting 11A.

so all the shear walls on the grid 11A is selected.

set the elevation view on 11.

now cick on the concerete icon on the toolbar to run the frame for the reinforcement detail.

once the reinforcement details is appeared, get the values of the longitudinal bars, pier shear bars, border and the edge bars.

2)

as per the IS 13920-2016 clause 10.1.4 the assigned shear wall is classified as Slender wall.

hw/lw=21000/1500= 14

the value is greater than 2 hence the slender.

minimum net vertical reinforcement as per the IS 13920 table 1

0.0025+0.01375(300/1500)=2363 mm^2

Minimum vertical reinforcement within boundary element as in the table 1,

1140mm^2 on left side.

1080mm^2 on right side.

minimum horizontal reinforcement in the shear wall as IS 13920-2016 TABLE 1:

Ph=750/(300 x 1000) =0.0025

(Ph)min = 0.0025 + 0.5 (21/15) x (0.0025-0.0025)

(Ph)min = 0.0025

maximum dia of rebar for shear wall as IS 13920:

the dia of rebar should not exeed 1/10 of the thickness of the wall.

thickness of the 300mm

1/10th of 300mm is 30mm

the market availability within 30mm is 25 mm rebar.

confienment reinforcement within the boundary element as per the IS 13920-2016 clause 10.4.4

limitations:

1/3rd of minimum member dimension= 300/3 = 100mm

6 times smallest main rebar= 6 x 25 = 150mm^2.

150mm permissible if the vertical bars are spaced at maximim 200mm

Sv=150mm, h=1000mm

Ash=452 mm^2
