DESIGNING SHEET METAL BRACKET 2 IN NX SOFTWARE
OBJECTIVE:
In this project we are going to design a Bracket in NX using sheet metal application.
Introduction:
Sheet metal is any metal that has a thickness in between 0.5 mm and 6 mm. Any metal piece thicker than 6mm are considered as Structural Metal (for ex. Structural Steel) and any metal piece having thickness lower than 0.2mm is called Metal Foil.
Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes.
It is found in various industrial application ranging from small and light Fixture to an Automotive Body Part. Sheet metal applications have wide range due to its properties like: High Strength, Low weight and Corrosion Resistance.
General Sheet Metal materials are Steel, Aluminium, Brass, Titanium. There are 2 ways of producing Sheet Metal – Hot Rolling and Cold Rolling. For precision applications, cold rolled steels are preferred as manufacturers have more control over the final dimensions. This is because in hot rolled steels, after cooling, the steel shrinks slightly and the shape might change a little.
DESIGN METHODOLOGY
- NX Sheet Metal Part File Sketch Creation -YZ Plane
- Creation of Counter Flange
- Normal Cut-out
- Break Corners & Unbend
- Cut-out & Re-bend
- Creation of Advanced Flange
- Unbend & Hole Generation
- Normal Cut-out & Advanced Flange
- Re-bend & Gusset Creation
- Create Flat Pattern
Description of the tool used.
DATUM PLANE: - It provides an axis on the work base.
SKETCH: - By the help of this tool 2D sketch to be drawn to get the desired shape.
DESIGN PARAMETER: This allows us to set the value of Material Thickness, Relief Depth, Bend Radius, Relief Width, K-Factor.
NORMAL CUTOUT: It allows making holes as per the sketch and removing materials.
BENDING: It allows to bend materials from edges.
COUNTOUR FLANGE: By this tool Created a base feature by extruding along the vector sketch.
UNBEND: It's do flatten bend.
HOLES: It allows to make symmetric standard holes.
DIMPLE: It is used to lift an area in the Closed sketch of the model.
BEAD: It provided to apply stiffness to the surface ( Formed), get oval shape ( Lanced), get oval shape with relief angel ( Punched).
DRAFTING (BASE VIEW): It is used to get detail sketched.
FLANGE: Used to create the flanges of required length and the angle and bend radius.
UNBEND: Used to flatten the sheet metal on give base surface.
BEAD: It is used to create a stamping effect inside or to outside of the sheet metal.
HOLE: It creates a hole of required dia on the selection of the location of the point.
REBEND: It is used to get the sheet metal to its original shape after bending it.
Flat-Pattern: It is used to create a flat surface on the selection of base surface which can be used for the drawings.
