Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_7_ Metal bracket-II

Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NXCAD (Challenge 7 Bracket - II)

Objective:

The objective of this challenge is to create a “Bracket-II” using different types of tool/features.

What is NX CAD?

NX CAD is an advanced high-end CAD/CAM/CAE software used for designing models etc. It was formerly known as unigraphics owned by Siemens PLM Software.

What is Sheet Metal ?

Sheet metal is a thin and flat piece of metal formed by rolling or hammering, sheets are available in many different metals, namely aluminium, copper, brass, steel, gold, sliver, etc.

Tools used to create the Bracket-II:

  1. Sketch
  2. Contour Flange
  3. Normal Cutout
  4. Break Corner
  5. Unbend
  6. Rebend
  7. Simple Hole
  8. Advanced Flange
  9. Gusset
  10. Flat Pattern

Here,

  • Sketch: This command is used to draw sketch of the required shape design.
  • Normal Cutout: This command is used to create a cutout by projecting a sketch upon the model and then cutting perpendicular to its face by the projection.
  • Unbend: This command is used to unbend the whole model into a flattened sheet.
  • Rebend: This command is used to rebend all the joints as previously state to make the sheet metal model finally complete.
  • Break Corners: This command is used to create fillet/ rounding at the edges using proper dimensions.
  • Flat Pattern: This command is used to flat the model or sheet metal design into flattened shape to be used in drafting.
  • Simple Hole: This command is used to create a hole on one or more solid bodies in a part or assembly with various options of which one being “Simple Hole” this comes under the category of Holes.
  • Advanced Flange: This command is used to add flange along the edge using the reference face or bend angle. The edge and reference face can be curved.
  • Gusset: This command is used to provide strength and rigidity to the sheet metal.
  • Contour Flange: This command is used to create a base feature by extruding a sketch along the vector.

Design Methodology

  1. Sketch the required shape
  2. Add Contour Flange
  3. Add another required Sketch
  4. Insert Normal Cutout
  5. Apply Break Corner
  6. Sketch the required
  7. Apply Normal Contour
  8. Sketch the required
  9. Apply Normal Contour
  10. Break Corner
  11. Unbend
  12. Draw the Required Sketch
  13. Apply Normal Cutout
  14. Rebend
  15. Add Break Corner
  16. Apply Advanced Flange
  17. Unbend
  18. Add the required Sketch
  19. Add required Simple Hole
  20. Add required Sketch
  21. Apply Normal Cutout
  22. Add Sketch
  23. Apply Normal Cutout
  24. Add Advanced Flange
  25. Rebend the Sheet Metal
  26. Add Gusset’s where required to strengthen the sheet metal
  27. Lastly, create a Flat Pattern of it
