Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_5_Odd Shaped Enclosure
Odd Shaped Enclosure
OBJECTIVE
- to design an odd-shaped encloser in sheet metal by using nx cad siemens.
INTRODUCTION
- here we are going to create an odd-shaped encloser in sheet metal. these kinds of enclosers are very useful for machine protection. it protects machines like motors and so on from water, and unfortunate impacts and most importantly it is used for safety purposes. safety purposes like heat, exploding and so on.
- while creating an encloser, we must be aware of choosing a material. We should consider some factors before selecting those: applications, corrosion resistance, strength weight, cost, etc.
DESIGN METHODOLOGY
- while the design of an enclosure we have to assume some parameters so our product will perform well in the manufacturing place
which are given below
- uniform thickness
- keep the diameter of the hole at least larger than the sheet metal thickness
- spacing between holes at least 2 times the sheet metal thickness.
use beads to strengthen our product.

Creating the Solid body:
- Create the sketch for the solid body. Then apply the extrude feature to the sketch in modelling tools. Sketch extruded up to 200 mm.

Wrap the solid body:
- Using the Sheet metal from the solid feature wrap the solid body with the sheet metal. This feature helps us to add more features.

JOG
- on the other side apply a jog. what jog do is lift material as shown in fig. the profile was created by the sketch on the lifting faces.

UNBEND
- do a unbend it will unbend our sheet metal as shown in the figure. unbend command is used to add some extra features to the sheet metal and also it is ensuring that we are working on the sheet metal design.

ADD EXTRA FEATURES
BEAD
- bead is added to the sheet metal part to increase the stiffness of the sheet metal. the bead can be created by sketching a line.

HOLES
- HOLES have been created with a uniform diameter of the cut profile.

REBEND
- then do a rebend to back to its formed shape and the final encloser would result like this

FLAT PATTERN
- create a flat pattern for drafting purposes to ensure that you have enabled all the important details so those are reflected in your drafting.

CONCLUSION
- finally I have successfully designed an odd-shaped enclosure by applying standards that are relevant to the manufacturing process and I have learned how to convert solid to sheet metal.
