Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_5_Odd Shaped Enclosure

Odd-Shaped Enclosure Sheet metal Design using NX Cad

Objective:

The Design of Odd-shaped enclosure will give you more possible ways to explore the additional feature given in any enclosure.

Using NX Cad software, creating this sheet metal enclosure shows the easy way to model it.

Introduction:

Enclosures are usually of sheet metal and it is a cabinet for electrical or electronic equipment to mount switches, knobs and displays and

to prevent the electric shocks. Standards like NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturer's Association) and IEC states about the Cover corrosion

resistance, ability to protect from rain and IP Rating (Ingress Protection) codes respectively. Mild steel, stainless steel, Aluminium are most

commonly used materials for Enclosures.

Design Methodology:

Description:

1. Select the Units as "Millimeters" and create a new part in NX Cad.

2. Select the XY plane and sketch a rhombus with 200mm wide, 100mm height and sides at 60 degrees inclined each.

3. Extrude the section upto 200mm length.

4. Select the Sheet metal from Solid option and all four Edges of top face as bend edges and those faces as web faces with 3mm thickness.

5. Create a flange at the side edge upto 20mm long at 90 degree.

6. Create a inclined jog at the other side of the enclosure at height of 20mm.

7. Unbend the flanges to add additional features like Holes of 10mm diameter , circular Beads with 3mm depth etc.,

8. Rebend the flanges and select the flat pattern option.

9. Create a flat pattern and save the model.

10. Create drawing with Flat pattern and with bend details in the view.

Here are some of images of the Enclosure,

Conclusion:

These are the steps for designing an enclosure with proper sequences as per manufacturing method. I hope you wil find easy to understand.

Thank you guys.
