Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

Title of the Project - Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX CAD challenge 2 -  Box Assembly

Objective

To design a Box assembly using NX CAD.

Introduction

Any metal having a thickness in between 0 to 6 mm is  called a  sheet metal. Sheet metal is a metal formed by  industrial such as hot and cold press  into thin and flat pieces. It can be cut and bend into many shapes. Here we design a box assembly using NX sheet metal design. NX Sheet metal design provides the  design professional with a complete set of tools to efficiently create and manage sheet metal parts based on the knowledge of material properties and manufacturing processes.

Design Methodology

Description

1. Draw a sketchof a rectangle of 200 * 150 mm with the centre of one of the side of 150mm lying in the point of orgin.

2. Use tab option to give a thickness of 1mm.

 3. Using flange option, give two flanges of 200mm normal to XY.

4. Again using the flange option give two flanges of 70mm normal to XZ direction

5. Using closed corners, close the gap at the bottom.

6. Give a flange with bend  radius 0 and length 0.02mm.

7. Create another flange  of 6.5mm as shown below:

8. Similarly repeat the steps 6 and 7 for the other edge as well.

9. Using hem, create an open hem shape of 0.5 bend radius and 5mm length.

10. Similarly do hemming for the other end as well.

11. Once the hem is done, we mirror the body.

12. Then we  unite the body as a single object.

13. We draw a sketch on one of the sides of the body and give a radius of 10mm on all corners.

14. Using the dimple command we create a dimple from the above sketch with a depth of 2mm outside.

15. Using mirror feature, mirror the sketch of the dimple on the other side.

16. Then again using dimple, create on the new side too.

17. Similarly draw sketch of a rectangle on the bottom surface of the box. Give corner relief of 10mm to all corners.

18. Using Dimple, create a dimple of 2mm depth inwards.

19. Unbend all the bends.

20. Rebend them.

21. Sketch a small circle close to the corner of the bottom surface as shown below.

22. Using bead option create a small bead of depth 2mm.

23. Using mirror feature, mirror these beads on all remaining corners.

24. Create a closed hem of flange length 2mm as shown below.

25. Create a datum plane at a distance of 203mm from the orgin.

26. Create a sketch tracing the boundary of the assembly.

27. Using tab give a thickness of 2mm downwards to create the lid.

28. Create a flange of length 3mm on the two long sides of the lid.

29. Sketch a rectangle on one side of the assembly as shown below.

30. Use Tab to give it a thickness of 1mm.

31. Use break corner to round of the edge

32. Create a flange of length 4mm at a 40 degree angle.

33. Create an another flange of 40 degree and 4mm length on the previous flanges open end.

34. From the free end of the flange create an open loop hem of bend radius 5mm with a sweep angle of 325 degrees bend outside.

35. Unbend the feature.

36. Draw a sketch as shown below.

37. Using normal cutout, remove to alternate rectangles.

38. Rebend them and mirror the body.

39. Then draw a sketch of a rectangle as shown below.

40. Apply tab to the sketch for a thickness of 1mm.

41. Break corner is applied to the newewst addition.

42. Give a flange to the tab of length 13 mm with an angle of 39 degree.

43. Applyopen loop hem of bend radius 5mm and sweep angle 325 degree bend outside.

44. Unbend the surface.

45. Sketch some rectangles as shown in figure below.

46 Take a normal cutout as shown below so as that the link of the box fits perfectly with link of the lid..

47. Rebend it t complete the design.

RESULT

1. Isometric view

2. Front view

3. Side view

4. Top view

CONCLUSION

The design of the box assembly is complete.
