Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

Modelling of the Box Assembly in NX Simmens

Introduction:

Symens NX is an engineer software used to create real models of mechanical part and from these models the technical drawings that will be used to manufactory the parts modelled.

Design methodology

Objectives:

The objective of this first lessons of this module is to learn all the features necessary to create a Box Assembly using sheet metal.

Description of the modelling process.

Sketch: Is used to draw any kid of shape in a 2D space that will be used to generate a solid model.

Tab: Is used to create a tab in a 3D space from a sketch previously defined

Normal cut: Is used to create a cut-out on the solid model. This feature needs also a sketch that will drive the shape of the cut-out.

Flange: Is used to add a flange to the existing sheet metal. This command won’t just bend the existing sheet metal, it will also add material to the part.

Unbend: Is used to unbend the existing sheet metal so you can apply extra features to it looking at the part on the pre-ending stage.

Dimple: Is used to create dimples on the existing sheet from a sketch where you can define the radius, depth, and others details.

Bead: In the same why of the dimple this feature will lift or lower the material from a sketch simulating a stamp tool.

Mirror Body: Is used to mirror pre-existing body into the model. Will need a reference edge, plan or line to mirror.

Re-bend: Is used to re-bend the metal sheet to it final stage which was predefined before we start adding the details such as dimples and beads.

Closed Corner: Used to close a corner where two adjacent flanges meet.

Hem Flange: Used to create a flange on an edge of a sheet metal folding it on itself creating a thicker edge

Unit: Used to join to existing bodies into one.

Datum Plane: Used to create a new plan using a surfac, edge or existing plan as reference.

Drawing/Drafting: Is used to create a drawing of the part modelled where you can define one or more views to be added.

Conclusion:

The final Box Assembly sheet metal along with the detailed final drawing were completed using the above features.
