3D Creation of Ceiling, Roof, Architectural plan, Structural plan, Sectional view, Elevation view and Camera specific view for a house plan using REVIT

QUESTION: 3D Creation of Ceiling, Roof, Architectural plan, Structural plan, Sectional view, Elevation view and Camera specific view for a house plan using REVIT

AIM:

  • To create 3D Creation of Ceiling, Roof, Architectural plan, Structural plan, Sectional view, Elevation view and Camera specific view for a house plan using REVIT

INTRODUCTION:

Revit is a commercial building information modeling (BIM)software by the company Autodesk. Its generally used by architects, structural engineers, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineers, designers and contractors. Autodesk Revit allows users to create, edit and review 3D models in exceptional detail.

Architects:

  1. Real time/3d
  2. Better coordination for projects
  3. Huge data and library to give shape to ideas

Structural engineers:

  1. Engineering design of the conceptual design
  2. Real time coordination
  3. Optimization of design

PROCEDURE:

1) Based on the project saved from Week 3, proceed from the First Floor Level. Model a Ceiling from the architecture tab above the walls at the first-floor level.

Step 1:

  • Open REVIT software
  • And open a dwg challeng-3
  • Click ceiling option in architecture tab and select sketch ceiling option
  • Architecture > Ceiling > Sketch ceiling

  • Select the outer line of the wall and click ok
  • The ceiling is created in the first floor

Result:

2) Model a roof above the ceiling by selecting the footprints of the ceiling. Using the adjustment toolbars appearing on-screen adjust the roof slope to 10 degrees

Step 1:

  • Select Roof by footprint in architecture tab
  • Architecture > Roof > Roof by footprint
  • And select rectangle option
  • Create the rectangle at first floor plan

  • The roof has been created in the first floor

Step 2:

  • Now change the slope of roof
  • Type UN and press enter, the project units dialog box is appeared
  • Then change the slope option feet inches to degree

  • Next click the roof and see the properties
  • Change the slope angle 10 in dimesion box

Result:

3) Using the file saved from weeks 2 to 4, create plan views for ground floor level and first-floor level including all the walls, floors, and components. Separate them to
architecture and structural plans

a. Architecture plan must have walls, floors, and all the components placed within the building
b. Structure plan must have details of only walls, floors, and columns

Step 1:

  • Go to the plan views in view tab

  • Select floor plan and click edit type

Result:

  • Architecture plan

  • Structure plan

4) Using annotate toolbar add dimensions to all the walls and floors with reference to the longitudinal and transverse grids created in the project file

a. The architecture plan dimensions include details on where the components are placed within the buildings with relation to grids. Overall dimensions are sufficient for architecture plans

b. The Structure plan dimensions must include details on the position of all the walls and interior walls with reference to grids. Locate all the framing components of the building with reference to a fixed point using Structural plans

Step 1:

  • First we create the grids in architecture tab
  • Architecture > Grids
  • Annotate > select the dimension

  • Now mention dimension with the reference of grids
  • Create the dimension in architecture plan and structural plan with reference of grids

Result:

  • Architecture plan dimension

  • Structure plan dimension

5) Create a sheet template from the view tab and adjust the parameters on the sheet to add appropriate views

Step 1:

  • First create a sheet in view tab
  • View > sheet

  • Select the size format of the sheet

Result:

6) Using the elevation tab create the elevation views, looking at your building from East, North, South, and West

Step 1:

  • Click the view tab in the ribbon bar
  • View > Elevation
  • And set the direction to view in the layout

  • Now see the properties browser and click the elevation
  • It can be create an East, North, South, West elevations

Result:

  • East elevation view

  • North elevation view

  • South elevation view

  • West elevation view

7) Produce section cut through each room either cutting across longitudinally or in a transverse direction

Step 1:

  • Create the section in each room
  • Go to view > Section

  • Draw the section as where we want

Result:

  • Balcony

  • Hall & Kitchen

  • Room1 & Toilet

  • Room2 & Utility

8) Classify the views, Plan Views, Section Views, and Elevation views to either Design or Documentation category using Properties browser

Step 1:

  • Go to view tab > Property browser

Result:

9) Using the sheet template produced create multiple sheets as follows
a. A 101- Ground Floor Architecture Plan
b. A 102- First Floor Architecture Plan
c. A 103- Roof Plan
d. S 101- Ground Floor Structural Plan
e. S 102- First Floor Structural Plan
f. S 103- Roof Framing Plan
g. A-201- North-South Elevations
h. A-202- East-West Elevations

Add additional sheets based on the sections created in your Revit file

Step 1:

  • Go to view > sheet
  • Create the sheet and place the given view

Result:

  • A 101- Ground Floor Architecture Plan

  • A 102- First Floor Architecture Plan

  • A 103- Roof Plan

  • S 101- Ground Floor Structural Plan

  • S 102- First Floor Structural Plan

  • S 103- Roof Framing Plan

  • A-201- North-South Elevations

  • A-202- East-West Elevations

10) Create a camera-specific view or a 3D view in each room ( living, dining, bedroom). Based on the views create a new set of sheets starting A-501 (you can add as many sheets after, 502, 503.. n)to place the 3D view images. Produce the sheets as a part of project drafting.

Step 1:

  • Go to View > 3d view > camera

  • Place the camera and select the direction where you want in 3d view
  • Then create the sheet and place the views

Result:

  • 3D view - Hall

  • 3D view - Dinning&kitchen, Utility

  • 3D view - Bedroom, Toilet

  • 3D view - Front view

  • 3D view - Front top view

FINAL RESULT:

  • The 3D Creation of Ceiling, Roof, Architectural plan, Structural plan, Sectional view, Elevation view and Camera specific view for a house plan are created using REVIT.
