Best Projects on Embedded Systems by Skill-Lync Students

Skill-Lync

An embedded system consists of hardware, software and an operating system. Development of each component requires expertise in different aspects and using different tools. Working on some mini projects on embedded systems will widen your skill sets and potentially increase your hireability. Because embedded engineers are in high demand, the demand is expected to increase by 20% by 2028.

Here is a list of embedded systems projects our students did during their coursework. These embedded projects are done by students like you, who are upskilled through Skill-Lync.

1. Creation of User Interface

Creation of User Interface

Use Cases

The user interface is a dashboard or an input system through which you can interact with a machine. For example, your TV remote is the user interface. You can use the remote to command your television to surf through different channels or adjust the volume. Similarly, all electronic devices have an interface to interact with the user. For instance, the display screen is the user interface for the calculator, the first-ever embedded system to use a microprocessor.

Project Description

Our student Dhivyalakshmi N successfully created a user interface using the C programming language as a part of her coursework at Skill-Lync. The user interface she created performed functions of mathematical set theory. The code she developed computed union and intersection functions on the list provided by the user.

2. Study of Embedded Systems and Development of Pseudocode

Study of Embedded Systems

Use Cases

All remote control systems and devices that do intend functions deploy embedded boards. They are used to make an electronic device do a specific function. Many advanced systems were developed using embedded systems using microcontrollers that are beneficial.

Project Description

Our student Jay Gharat conducted a detailed study to understand its full benefits. He learned about the architecture of an 8-bit microcontroller, factors affecting the selection of microprocessors/microcontrollers, and different transmission modes. He also completed developing a pseudocode for displaying speed on the digital dashboard. As an electronics engineer, he was passionate about CAN technology and learned how it worked in automotive. He specifically studied how an electric vehicle's BMS (Battery Management System) communicates internally.

3. Software-in-the-loop

Software-in-the-loop

Use Cases

Software-in-loop or SIL is a method to test and validate codes in less time, which is one of the approaches under model-based designing. This methodology can be deployed to spot the bugs and understand the code behavior in the controller.

Project Description

Our student Deepak Gaur, executed software in-loop testing for a generated code. When industries want to simulate, generate and simulate codes for a complex function of embedded systems, SIL testing is performed. The ECU (Electronic Control Unit) performs many complex tasks in the automotive industry. Manually testing and validating codes for it is a tedious task. This Model-Based development process can be used to control and verify a two-sided model with ease. Deepak Gaur successfully developed a model and generated code using an embedded coder. He ran the simulation and analyzed the test coverage report. He achieved 100% coverage for both condition and decision.

4. Integration of Sensors to Dev Board

Integration of Sensors to Dev Board

Use Cases

Dev Boards are PCBs or Printed Circuit Boards with installed microcontrollers for building an embedded system. Using a Development Board, you can test your code without much effort to connect different circuitry components on a breadboard.

Project Description

Our student J Deva Divya, integrated IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) sensor into an embedded system to enhance its precision. IMU sensors are commonly used in aircraft to determine their orientation, velocity, and gravitational forces. It is still used in some electronic devices for GPS applications. Divya successfully compiled demo code to get the STMicroelectronics IMU up and running on the development board. She concluded that IMUs are useful for getting location and heading information by themselves.

5. Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive Cruise Control

Use Cases

Adaptive Cruise Control, or ACC, is one of the most important applications of embedded systems deployed in modern cars to eliminate crashes. It senses the speed of the vehicle ahead of you and matches the speed of your vehicle to it. This system plays a crucial role in autonomous vehicles.

Project Description

Our Student Jowin Winson A developed a MATLAB Simulink Model for the Adaptive Cruise Control system. The model he developed used a radar sensor and was placed in the front of a passenger car. It actively monitors the road ahead and detects vehicles if it falls within the monitoring range. When a vehicle with a lower speed is detected, it controls its speed by releasing the accelerator or engaging the brakes. He followed the model-based approach and utilized an embedded C coder to generate codes.

6. Traffic Jam Assistant Feature

Traffic Jam Assistant Feature

Use Cases

Traffic Jam Assistant is another application embedded system found in autonomous vehicles. This intelligent technology detects the speed of the surrounding vehicles and adjusts the speed, applies brakes and even steers to align your vehicle with the lane.

Project Description

Our student Nomesh Dilip Rane, designed and developed a model for the traffic jam assistant system using MATLAB Simulink as per MBD guidelines. He generated codes using an embedded C coder and Model Advisor Report. He created a Simulink Data Dictionary for it and liked the model he created. He also deployed an Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) unit to his model to display the information to the driver.

Conclusion

Skill-Lync's mission is to transform the career of engineers and provide the opportunity to work-on industry-level projects. The embedded systems projects in the article were built by our students and were solutions to real-time issues. Through Skill-Lync’s courses, you too can tap into your creativity and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems.
