Skill-Lync

Germany is the hub for automotive and mechanical engineering, given its huge market of manufacturers. By 2016, the automotive industry in Germany had a labor force of 8,57,336. The automobile industry in Germany is quite innovative and competitive since it is the home to the modern car. So naturally, Germany is the best place to study automotive engineering since it is the home country for automotive engineering and hosts industrial giants such as BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen etc.

RWTH Aachen University

Courses available:

In the past decade, RWTH has maintained excellence in the subject of engineering sciences. This is proved by the university’s rankings and international assessments. Since 2010, departments like Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Electrical Engineering have always received top results in terms of rankings. The Automotive courses at the university focus on three areas: Road vehicle engineering, Rail vehicle Engineering, and Material Handling Technology. The university houses labs such as the Fuel Design Center to work on research projects. You can view the list of laboratories at the university by following this link.

Technical University of Munich

Course offered:

The metropolitan city of Munich retains a number of car manufacturers and so, the Technical University Munich has a strong automobile and mechanical department. The course trains the students in classic automotive engineering and interdisciplinary automotive engineering areas to prepare the learners for the changing automotive industry. The Munich School of Engineering (MSE) acts as an Integrative Research Centre and work on research projects related to energy generation, electromobility etc.

Esslingen University of Applied Sciences

Courses available:

The Esslingen University of Applied Sciences has been repeatedly ranked high by ZEIT and WirtschaftsWoche. In 2018, the university had 4th place in Mechanical Engineering and 6th place in Industrial Engineering among German Universities. The course trains the learners to become highly qualified in the field of automotive systems. Students can choose to major in one of the following areas: Software-Based Automotive Systems, Vehicle Dynamics or Car Electronics. Some of the research at the university include:

Technical University of Ingolstadt (THI)

Courses available:

  • Automotive Production Engineering (M. Eng.) – English

  • Automotive Engineering (M. Eng.) – German

The Automotive course at THI gives an in-depth understanding of the subject theoretically and technically. The coursework is accredited by ASIIN (Accredition Agency for Degree Programmes in Engineering, Informatics, the Natural Sciences, and Mathematics). The research center (ZAF –Zentrum für Angewandte Forschung) supports all research activities. The CARISSMA (Center of Automotive Research on Integrated Safety Systems and Measurement Area) aims to apply research to find a way to enhance traffic safety. Other institutes which perform research in areas related to automotive include:

  • Institute of new Energy Systems (InES)
  • AWARE (Applied Network on Automotive Research and Education)

Chemnitz University of Technology

Course offered:

In terms of quality, CUT ranks among the top 5 universities in Germany. The university has strong links with companies like Siemens, AMD and Volkswagen etc. These companies have major centers in the Chemnitz area. The students are taught to plan, design, manufacture and be familiar with the complex production methods in the automotive industry. Some of the collaborative research centers at the university are:

  • SFB-TR 96 “Thermo-Energetic Design of Machine Tools – A Systematic Solution to the Conflicting Goals of Energy Use, Accuracy, and Productivity Using the Example of Machining”
  • SFB-TRR 135 “Cardinal Mechanisms of Perception: Prediction, Evaluation, Categorization”
  • SFB-TR 39 “High volume production technologies for light metal and fiber composite based components with integrated piezo sensors and actuators PT-PIESA”
  • SFB 692 “High-strength aluminum-based lightweight construction materials for safety components”

Happy Learning!
