Advanced 3D Modeling: Revolve Tool & File Management in Ansys SpaceClaim

logo

Skill-Lync

Welcome to the Additive Manufacturing & 3D Printing with Ansys SpaceClaim blog series! In this blog, we will explore the Revolve Tool, a powerful feature that enables the creation of cylindrical and spherical 3D geometries, and discuss best practices for saving and loading projects in Ansys SpaceClaim for manufacturing users.

Using the Revolve Tool for 3D Modeling

The Revolve Tool allows users to generate 3D geometry by rotating a 2D profile around a defined axis. Follow these steps to create a sphere in Ansys SpaceClaim for 3D printing:

  • Start with a 2D circular sketch.
  • Define a straight construction line as the axis of rotation.
  • Select the Revolve Tool, then choose the circle and the axis of rotation.
  • Drag the shape around the axis to complete the revolution, creating a solid sphere.

If the axis of rotation is offset, the revolution will form a toroidal shape, useful for designing components such as pipes or rings in Ansys SpaceClaim for industrial designers.

Saving & Loading Models in Ansys SpaceClaim

To ensure project efficiency, Ansys SpaceClaim for engineers provides multiple methods for saving and loading models:

  • Saving a Project: Click the Save Icon, use Ctrl + S, or navigate to File > Save As to specify the format.
  • Opening a Project: Click the Open Icon, use Ctrl + O, or browse the Recent Documents List.
  • Drag & Drop: Quickly load a model by dragging the saved file into the Ansys SpaceClaim workspace.

Mastering file management in Ansys SpaceClaim for engineering users streamlines workflow and enhances productivity in additive manufacturing.

Conclusion

In this blog, we explored how to use the Revolve Tool to create cylindrical and spherical geometries and covered essential file management techniques. These skills are vital for professionals in Ansys SpaceClaim for mechanical engineers, product designers, and CAD users. Stay tuned for our next installment in the Ansys SpaceClaim tutorial for engineers series!
