Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 5 & 6 Challenge
The objective of this project is to first route the two Harness A and Harness B as per the given harness layout.
Step 1: We have to first define all the connectors geometrically and electrically as shown in below images.
Step 2:
Now, we have to create Harness A and Harness B by using electrical harness assembly as shown in below image.
First, we will locate all the connectors at their desired position, add branch points required and create bundle segment according to the diameters assumed as 10mm and 5mm.
Harness-A Routing :-
Secondly I did the same for the Harness_B_Routiing. And defined the Assembly.
Harness_B_Routing :-
Step 3:
- This phase requires us to confirm bundle continuity in both Harness A and Harness B.
- So for that, go to Edit>Search>Workbench-Electrical>Type-Bundle segment > Attribute-fully linked.
- We shall be presented with a single window in which we can pick True to display all connected bundle segments and False to display all non-connected bundle segments.
- We will now check for the True condition and search for the result.
- All of the bundle segments are shown as connected. As can be seen in the photos below, both Harness A and Harness B have bundle continuity.
- So after giving annotations to all connectors, the whole assembly will look as below.
Step 6:
- In this stage, we will convert the final harness assembly file to IGS format. To accomplish this, we must follow the steps outlined below.
- Mechanical Assembly Design Workbench >Tools>Generate a CAT Part from the product.
- Once the CAT part is formed, the entire product file is combined into a single component.
- The entire file has now been translated to IGS format, and all of the harness assemblies appear grey.
- If we need to alter the color back to green, we can do it by assigning green to each bundle section.
- To save CAT part file as IGS file, we have to use 'Save as' option as shown in below image.
So, we have completed the harness routing and connections of both harnesses A and B in accordance with the supplied layout. Both harnesses are reviewed and repaired for bundle continuity, bundle warnings, annotations for all connectors, and finally the entire CAT component file is converted to IGS format.
As we convert to an IGS file, all of the pieces, including the bundle, will turn grey. So, for easier identification of the Bundles. Using Graph characteristics, we will color it green. at the Mechanical Assembly Workbench.
