Challenge

Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 5 & 6 Challenge

REPORT

We have got harness layout as below and accordingly we have to route it. for that we have to make assumption for harness bundel diameter and use connectors.

Step1:we have to define all the connectors geometrically and electrically as shown in below picture.

Step 2:

Now we have to create harness A and harness B by using electrical harness assembly workbench

First we have to locate all the connectors at their desired position add branch point required and create bundel segment according to the diameter assumed as 10 mm and 7mm.

Harness B routing

Harness A routing

STEP 3:

1.Now in this step we have to check bundal continunity in both harness A and harness B

2.so for that go in Edit>search>workbench-electrical>Type-bundel segment>attribute-fully connected.

3.One window will popup in that select true option will show all the connected bundel segments while selecting false option will show all the disconnected bundels.

4.Now we will check the true condition and search for result.

5.All the bundels are showing are connected . so there is bundel continunity in both harness A and narness B as shown in below picture.

Step 4:

1. In this step we are going to interconnect both harness A and harness B.

2. For that we have to create product file and can give name as assembly.

3. Then copey both harness and paste it in newly created product file or insert both harnesses in mechanical assembly design as below image.

4. We have to go in electrical assembly to connect both the harness electrically, so for that select the option called connect electrical device and both harness will get connected electrically as below.

As shown in below picture male connector should have to be inserted in to female connector.

Step 5:

1. In this step we have add anotations for all the connectors in mechanical assembly design workbench.

2. Annotations are used for giving connector name and functions etc.

3. For this we have to select plane were annotation will be placed, in below image i have selected front plane.

4. we should make sure that the geometrical bundel is active before selecting the annotation plane.

5. we can able to change font, font size and font colour by going in to the properties.

6. so after giving annoatations to all connectors, the hole assembly will look as below.

Step 6:

1.Now in this step we have to convert final harness assembly file in to igs format . so for that we have to follow below steps.

2.Mechanical assembly design work bench>tools>generate cat part from product.

3. Once the cat part is created, the whole product file is converted in to single part.

4.Now hole file is converted in to igs formate and we can see all harness assembly is looking in grey colour.

5.if we need to change colour as before in green colour, we can go back and give green colour for each segment.

6. To save Cat part file in to igs file we have to use save us option as shown in below.

so in this way we have to done with this harness routing and interconnection of both the harness A and B according to the given layout. Both harness are checked and i am corrected for bundel continunity, bundel warnings, anottations are added for all the connectors at the end hole product file converted in to cat part file and we can able to convert cat in to igs file in future.
