Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 4 Challenge

AIM:

Route the following harness layout in the Electrical workbench. Make an assumption for harness bundle diameters. Use the following connectors as shown in the layout diagram.

Add protective covering on all branches connected to DT06-2S & DT06-4S connectors. Keep end extremity at 30mm (from connectors end)

DEFINING ELECTRIC PARAMETER FLOW CHART

CONNECTOR DEFINITIONS

1. Deutsch DT06 – 08SA

Connector connection point:

Create a midpoint on the contact face which will be normal to the wire bundle insertion.

Create an Axis System with respect to the point that we have created and define the axis direction as shown below,

Bundle connection point:

Switch to 'Electric Part Design'

Define the part as the connector in catia, and give the no. of termination as 8 because we have 8 entry points for wire.

Define Bundle connection point

Define connector connection point

So likewise we need to define all the connectors as electrically.

Now Create the Electric wire harness context assembly and Geometric bundle as a subassembly containing all the electric parameters as shown below.

Add all connectors that are electrically defined to the Geometric bundle assembly.

Then define this Geometric bundle assembly as electrical, for that, we need to switch to an Electric harness assembly workbench.

select Geometric Bundle then click on Geometric Bundle assembly (In the specification Tree)

Now, to position all the connectors as given in the input file,

Create an environment in which the bundle assembly will be placed.

Draw the sketch as a given dimension in input just for reference purposes.

Switch to the Mechanical assembly workbench, Position the connectors by using Manipulation, snap, smart move, and compass commands.

Now switch to the Electric harness assembly workbench

select multi-branchable documents

Now to route the harness, after selecting multi-branchable documents workbench changed to wire harness installation.

Click on the Branch definition

Then click on route definition

and select connectors in between where we want to create a branch.

To add a branch point

select the branch then give the ratio or dimension for the point

Final wire harness routing

Now to create a protective covering on all branches

switch to electrical harness assembly

select protective covering then select branch - select catalog - select appropriate slit cot tubes - give extremity of 30 mm at start and end - ok
